FireMan I ordered it Saturday and within half a day I came to my senses and realized that I had to come back to the Pit to share. All I have seen is the confirmation email and the cooker was moved to “sold, click to preorder”. My not so secret goal is to provide enough detail and cooks that everyone here is worked into a frothy lather and starts buying them used. What the Pit really needs is someone like me to provide stream of consciousness on a Komodo Kamado until y’all hate me 😁😉🔥🔥🐿️

Wow!! KK!! Now that's impressive. I've ogled over those more than once. But I have a wooden deck that I highly doubt could support that 590 lb beast. Have to give us all your unpacking pics and cooking stories so we can live vicarious through you!!

Ah Grillin Dad this was what held me up for so long, the concern about the weight. The 23 inch KK is comparable to a bathtub which is just fine if you have standard construction. Bigger than that and you do need a patio. Now windfall is another issue. I live under some big fir and cedar trees and they shed widow makers all the time. This is why i needed the little roof, to protect the ceramic from a lethal blow. See above my goal is to push someone else into getting one 🔥🔥🐿️

Hello SmokingSteve and thank you for the warm (smokin’) welcome!! Yea, had to order it now while they had them, if I waited until a polite distance from the spending frenzy we call Christmas they would probably be all gone and then I would miss critical days of BBQ season (love this excuse 😁) 🔥🔥🐿️

Alan Brice it’s hard to see them, they are so darn squirrely 🌰🥜🌰🥜🐿️. What a sweet thing, those SnS kettles are a pure joy!! I’m sure you have made grand use of it. Yes, the SMACKDOWN, i had to reread the thread to puff myself back up. Absolutely titilating - and then I caught up on the poopers vs burners (all around first class cooks) It’s pretty exciting the kamado. I will be sure to share it all. Thank you so much for your warm welcome!! 🔥🔥🐿️

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Congrats MsTwiggy !
I hope you can get the freight guy to move the big heavy crate to where the kamado will live. Those things are HEAVY! Fedex Freight was nice to wheel my SNS Kamado crate around to the backyard area, then a son in law came over to help me with the uncrating and assembly process. Definitely plan on some strong help when you open the grate.
I am thinking yours will be much less lifting since it has no cradle - the entire thing is one unit. Hopefully its just a matter of rolling the already assembled unit out of the opened side of the crate. I'll bet the boxes are just all the accessories. My firebox, deflector, grates, top vent and other items all had their own boxes. In my case though, all those boxes were inside the crate.
My kamado has stayed within a 12 by 30 foot slab of concrete in the backyard since it arrived in January 2021, and unless I move and take it with me, it won't be leaving that area.

I think I am going to have them deliver it to my garage. Then I will take the lid off before moving it to the back patio. It’s going to be a well thought out tactical exercise. The base weighs 338 pounds without any grills. I need to fabricate a ramp to get it up 5 stairs and then it can move to it’s final spot. I plan on rolling it all the way. . .yes all the boxes are accessories. More posts coming soon on the location, the extras i ordered and arrival. 🔥🔥🐿️

Just now seeing this post about your return and MCS pregnancy. I hope you get delivery soon.
I’ve missed you for each of those 471-ish days and have arranged some emojis to illustrate my stages of grief.

So the Kamado 🚀 arrived in Seattle on Thursday and I have scheduled delivery for Tuesday at high noon 🕛. I have some stairs that I need to get it over and think the best thing is to rent a ramp. They are reasonable $15/day for a 7 foot that can accomodate 800 pounds (folding version designed for wheelchairs). There is also a 15 foot version rated at 1500 pounds but it weighs 150 pounds and won’t fit in my car (similar to the aluminum ramp on a uhaul). The incline would be 43% or almost 2:1 with the 7 foot ramp. I think this is doable over a short distance especially since the other ramp will be a PITA to get. I’m thinking that rolling this will be much easier than lifting it. 🔥🔥🐿️

Congrats on the impending delivery. You may want to rent or borrow a come-along to move that beast up the ramp. I'm looking forward to the big reveal.
