    MsTwiggy following this thread intently…..
Uncle Bob comment triggered something in me. I think breaking down as far as you’ve got the skill to reassemble and move lighter loads is best. How do I know? I moved an assembled wedding cake once. You can guess what happened. Luckily, I was able to git it back together and was able to utilize the power of fresh flowers to hid the flaws. All those stupid baking competitions where they move assembled projects is bull sugar.

And yes, ramps and appliance dollies are good! How do I know? Worked a few side hustle jobs for a moving company many years ago.

Oh gawd the CAKE 😳. That sounds stressful 😩. SheilaAnn I appreciate your vibes. It may be a ramp dolly combo so that i have the security of the dolly smoothed out by the ramp. Or professional movers, as Uncle Bob noted I won’t know until I receive the item and take stock of my situation. 🔥🔥🐿️

Ultimate 23 in shipping crate. Taking the accessories off the top should be 100+ lbs or so.

Yeah... the other thing I see in that picture is the don't tilt statement on the side of the crate. That makes strapping it to an appliance type dolly problematic, as you will want to be tilting it on its back going up the steps.

I'm back in the camp of remove that stuff on top, then move the crated kamado through brute force... with lifting strap rigs even a couple of guys can lift an amazing amount of stuff while keeping it upright. Two young guys.... not 58 year olds like me!

jfmorris my question on "do not tilt" would be to see inside the kamado if there were moveable components that could cause damage. If so, removing them is the solution. Part of why I said I'd prefer to see the item in person. As to two guys with shoulder straps, yes, effective, and in theory would allow to keep it level..........until you look at the stair access being narrow and the carriers would have to navigate boulders, rocks and mulch. Poor footing wouldn't be my choice.

100 percent I will take stock of the shipment and remove everything that I can to lighten the load prior to deciding how to move it. 🔥🔥🐿️

Mosca in looking at rental options there are several dolly rentals from what you have shown here to a fully electric stair climber (which could be a solution for you if available to rent)
https://youtu.be/2i5MEUouqro?si=n9dfskcPi-gJr4e_ so many options, i am beginning to think a ramp/hand truck combo may be the solution. If not that professional movers 🔥🔥🐿️

First off, a belated welcome back!!

If you are doing this yourself, I would put my vote in for movers. If you have others to help you, definitely get something to aid in the ascent up the stairs. By far, the worst case scenario would be to get yourself hurt after everything you've been through. A not too close second worse case scenario would be to have the cooker go tumbling down those stairs.

If I were closer, I would be more than happy to be someone coming to help you get the Kamado in place! I also second the recommendation of recording the journey of the cooker to its final home. My wife was at work when my LSG Adjustable was delivered, and she got a kick out of watching the Ring video of me pull the crated cooker on the dolly through the snow as the delivery driver watched/tried to get out of the way. There was just no way I was not getting that pit in my garage!

NumbWhistle thanks for the welcome back!! I totally relate to that feeling of being so excited to get the cooker in the house. Going out to visit it in the garage, and scheming on it’s final place in the outdoor kitchen. This one feels like it is all coming together at last🔥🔥🐿️

Well everyone is safe at home. The delivery drivers were a bit of a rodeo and had me keyed up - they nearly dumped the crate off the pallet jack in the garage onto my car. 🙁😤😑 Fortunately my spouse was there to save the day. 😍 Everything is intact and all packages accounted for. 🤗 Everything that comes with the Kamado is in the crate. So i will need to finish unboxing to get that stuff out before i move it up the stairs. Here are some sneak peeks of what we have so far. The packing job is very nice!! I haven’t oulled the crate off yet, but was able to unscrew the bottom bolts which fasten the crate to the base. We then decided to take off the top to lighten the crate as we will need to tilt it when removing to clear the ceiling. It came with my very own mini prybar (how thoughtful!!), which was lashed to the inside of the crate. 🔥🔥🐿️

A piece of rebar formed into a prybar? Does that make it a prebar or a prior rebar prybar or a reprybar?

It is obvious that many of us are intrigued, are following the delivery/installation saga. But, looks like we are dealing with a civil engineer with aviation experience. I hereby revise my thought to hire a moving company. I now would consider a telescopic Boeing manlift (woman lift) with one ton capacity.

    I can show myself out.

😂😂😂 yakima all input is appreciated and welcome 🙏 I am going to do the statics calc this eve to figure out the horizontal force required 🤓🧐 to move the base up a ramp with an 20% incline or 5:1 slope. Right after i get my kids to bed which is going to be a rodeo 🚨🚨🚨tonight since mommy got her rocket 🚀 🔥🔥🐿️

I dunno... you may want to just grill in the garage... just saying!

Can't wait to see this baby fully uncrated and in action!

MsTwiggy, you’re a beautiful lady, but honestly, it was the grill that took my breath away! I’m picturing one with that pattern in a Kobalt blue. I think I’d spend all my time sitting and looking at it. You picked a beauty for sure!

And now the rest of the pics of the object. . . 😂😂😂 Each one is stamped with a serial number, mine is BS076J. The crate says not to tip it, not sure how i will proceed just yet. 🔥🔥🐿️

Thank you WayneT this is super exciting!! I can’t wait to fire it up and do the burn in 🔥🔥🐿️

Man! That is magnificent! My guess is concern for the lid moving on its own, is why not to tip. Also not to concentrate all that weight on one or two leg/feet alone. You might call your local locksmith. Some sell safes. So they have a specific dolly for concentrated poundage. And access to animals to move it. Hope I am not too late to the party. So excited for you Ms Twiggy.

Well, that is one beautiful cooker. I've only seen a Komodo Kamado a couple of times in person, and each one is a work of art.

Good luck planning the move. While I was in the camp of move the entire crate, before unpacking, now that its unpacked, you'll figure it out I am sure. And if you ever sell the house and move, you would have to figure out how to do it without the crate anyway. Maybe call KK and ask their advice?

I already have dibbs on it when the 32 comes. Quite clearly a nickel ninety eight or a dollar three eighty would be more appropriate. Smoke on MS. Twiggy. :-)

Wow. That is one beautiful pit! I've never seen a Komodo Kamado in person, and I am now kinda grateful that I haven't - or I guess I should say my bank account and credit card are thankful that I have not seen one in person. That would be oh so hard to pass up.

Good luck with the move! I'm sure you will figure it out - and if not, you could always tear down the garage and build a new one next to the Kamado! Just make sure it doesn't clash with the new cooker. :-)

Uncle Bob - Had my wife not just gotten me a new pit for my birthday/Christmas (the two aren't that close together, but it's an LSG, so it was ordered in August, and arrived in December), I would be tempted. That said, I love my new pit and I am thoroughly enjoying the learning experience with it.

However, my wife's family nickname is "KK" and Komodo Kamado's initials are KK, so..... ?

        :-)
