By the time the oven heats up, you're eating bacon from your CI skillet!

That is the con. On the other hand, you may cook far more strips of bacon in the oven than in CI skillet.

I've started bacon in the oven from cold, per Gritzer, and it's nearly finished by the time the oven reaches temp.

Flattop! 3 feet wide w/Dbl row of strips. Prolly six pounds or so.

I like the oven method because there is way less mess

Grill grates on my Hasty Bake can handle 3-4 pounds of bacon, no problem, plus sausage. And then I cook the French Toast. And then I have French Toast with butter, maple syrup, bacon, sausage and a Bloody Mary ..... Good to go!

Sadly, no picture of bacon on the grill grates :-/

I prefer oven as well. It just comes out perfect baking in its own goodness.

I prefer the oven as well. Since you should have an idea how long it takes, just start it at an appropriate time to be ready when you need it.

This may not work for breakfast, but you can start it as soon as you get up to get a head start.

If I didn't have the Hasty Bake with grill grates, I'd need a flat top :-)

We have come to really like our vertical air-fryer after using the oven method for years. The bacon is done in under 5 minutes (turning once) and contains the mess inside the air-fryer.

I’ve been cooking mine in the oven for YEARS. (Read: I’ve done it that way for so long that I can’t remember when I started.)
Bonus points for being able to collect all of that bacon fat goodness.

This. Sure the oven method takes time, but you can cook so much at once and there is a ton of bacon fat to collect and use for everything else! Just did this with cornbread the other day. I wanted bacon crumbles in it. So it also got a healthy dose of the bacon fat.

I'm old school - CI frying pan. Don't care if the oven is better, easier or whatever. Nothing like getting splattered with hot grease. It's a right of passage. However, don't cook bacon naked

              what's the matter with splatter

            #12
I laughed at one of the comments. A person talked about cutting the bacon in half to cook better in a smaller pan. The response was that cutting bacon in half is like breaking spaghetti in half before cooking….sacrilege. 🫣

When I make my own bacon I refuse to cut it in half even though the size never fits in the slicer. I just don’t like the look of a straight cut on the end of my bacon.

Oven baking is best for incorporating other flavor profiles, sweet or spiced and savory versions!

We cut bacon in half when we are camping. Much easier to handle in a smaller pan with uneven heat.

captainlee - No doubt. At the end of the day, it’s all bacon. 👍

For the two of use we use a microwave bacon rack and cover with a paper towel, not bad at all. When the kids are up we use the oven, that's the best way.
