Bored at work - interesting conversation about food you HATE

Very slow week at work and we got to talking about foods we dislike, no matter how many times and versions we've tried them.

For me, no matter how many versions of meatloaf I've tried (bacon wrapped, smoked, your moms, his moms, her moms...because you know SOMEONE always says "well you've never had MY mom's! when you say you don't like it....

Mine is meatloaf. Don't like it. Never will. Anyone got a food they just can't stand, no matter how much everyone else loves it??

Sweet potatoes........baked, fried, raw......you name it. I can't stand it.

Butterscotch and Carmel. Literally makes me gag when I think about it.

Love sweet potatoes! Not with all the marshmallow and sugar crap, though. Just plain straight up baked sweet potatoes with butter, salt and pepper. Yum!

I like asparagus but it's a major gout trigger for me so I don't eat it.

Glad I’m not the only one bored at work. Ham just doesn’t do it for me. Easter style spiral cut honey glazed, smoked, cold cuts, breakfast ham, doesn’t matter. Every other pork product is great.

Have to agree. I’ll eat pork from the rooter to the tooter but ham is my least favorite. Something about the color, smell and texture for me.....

Aw guys have you ever tasted a truly smoked and cured Benton's or Smithfield Ham that has been aged over a period of months.

Green peppers. Can't stand those. Onions are also high up on the list but I can tolerate them in some instances like pot roast or soup or something where they have been cooked a long time.

You can probably add cauliflower, avocados, olives, and mushrooms to my list too.

I like onions, but they don't like me. Unless, like you say, they have been thoroughly cooked.

I agree with you about green peppers and onions. Onions have to be chopped small and cooked.

Brussels Sprouts. Liver. Cream cheese. Got food poisoning from cream cheese back in college. Took about 20 years before I could stop gagging when I found it in foods. Wife would use it but not tell me and I could find it every time in desserts (she is a fantastic dessert cook). And I use to love it.

Lamb - NO WAY!! I work with children and it's just in my mind that I'm eating a child. Yes, I KNOW this is crazy! Also, no liver since I found out what its function in the body

so what are your feelings about Veal?

          #12
Oysters, clams, etc. although I continue to retry them. As a kid there was lots of stuff I didn't like but I've come to like almost everything I once did not.

Meatloaf is an interesting one since it pretty close to a burger. Did you have a very memorable bad experience with a particularly gross meatloaf once or twice?

I'll eat them in chowder (chopped up) or breaded and fried. But raw or just cooked, no thank you. I don't eat boggers either-about the same thing IMHO

Meatloaf when I was a kid probably because the way my mother used to make it. But my wife’s family meatloaf is actually ok.

I was the pickiest eating kid in the history of kids. Wouldn't even taste mac and cheese until about 4th grade, and I was a skinny little guy who didn't care to eat at all unless it was something I really liked. Somewhere in my teens, I started to come around. I eventually did a 180 and now I can eat and appreciate any skillfully prepared food.

Brussels sprouts are the official vegetable of Hell. Crab is the official shellfish of Hell. Anything from Arby's is the official fast food of Hell. Sweet potatoes are the official tuber of Hell. Cat Soup is the official condiment of Hell. And Liquid Smoke is....don't get me started on that again......

However, as a kid I hated meat loaf and steamed spinach and now love both.
