Do you heat your dinner plates?

I rarely do……sometimes do for a special meal. But, I often eat cooled food by the end of the meal and wish I had heated the plate. Is there a quick and easy way to heat the dinner plates? Can I just put them in the microwave for 30 seconds?

I put mine on the electric stove burner for 5 seconds or so.

I reckon the easiest way is to put them in the oven set to the lowest temp it'll hold - assuming your oven is not being used for something else.

I don't typically heat the serving plates but if I'm cooking something that fits in a large pyrex baking pan (used to carry it in from the cookers and hold it while resting), I'll heat that in the oven so that the glass doesn't immediately soak up a bunch of heat from the resting meat. I've had a few cuts get cooler than I wanted before service, and this tactic avoids that fate nicely.

Every time I put mine on the stove they catch fire! Guess one can not warm paper!

Being a retired engineer with nothing else to do today……I decided to go to the lab and characterize the MIT professors suggested microwave method.
Two ceramic plates in microwave with 1.5 cups of water in pyrex measuring cup
          one minute: top plate 80°
          two minutes: top plate 90°
          three minutes: top plate 100°
4 minutes: top plate 107°, bottom plate 100°

it may be easier to just stick them on the oven warming drawer…..back to the lab

The warming drawer that is full of broiler pans and such?

          #8
          Just in from the lab:

Oven warming drawer preheat for 5 minutes
          2 plates in for 5 minutes: 101°
2 plates in for 10 minutes: 127° (total time 15 minutes = winner!)

there will be a quiz on Friday

now I need to put a post it on the oven so I remember to do this….🤪

Yes, for company and if we make a special meal. Food cools so quickly here it's nice to attempt to keep it warm. We have warming drawers so I put them in about an hour before serving.

yes, I have a warming drawer but have only used it a few times in 6 years. I need to use it more.

We use the warming draw everyday within exception, for storing cooking stuff like baking pans.

          #10
Generally no. The exception is when I’m griddling stuff in colder weather. There is no joy in putting hot food on a freezing plate!

Right there with you my friend. I try to cook something outside every day. Mainly in the AM and leave the plate in the house right til the last minute…

I warm plates often. The microwave works in a pinch, but I frequently have an oven set to 170°F to keep cooked food warm while I’m finishing up everything, so I toss the plates in there.

I have never even thought about it. I really did not even know it was a thing that people did. Call me unrefined, I guess. LOL

Last night while griddling a batch of just made bacon, I stuck the edge of a plate under the edge of the griddle to warm it up. Put bacon on the plate- burned the crap out of pad on left middle finger while wrapping the plate with foil. Note to self - be more careful of things near the fire. Luckily I did not dump the bacon on the patio.

guess I'll be buying some heat lamps like they use at The Pass in professional kitchens. I'm sure Stacy won't mind that over the Kitchen Island.
