Anything other than Wonder Bread, a smooth peanut butter, and strawberry jam is really just plain evil.

I will eat PBJ sandwich any way you want to serve it. If I had to give you my preferred, it would be crunchy Skippy on homemade bread with a blackberry jelly.

This is how my dad would do it -

            Hearty wheat bread
Real peanut butter (peanuts and salt)
            Dijon mustard
            sliced red onion
            sliced bell pepper

When I make it I add fresh preserves and sharp cheddar cheese.

Cheap white wonderbread, untoasted and uncut w/crust on, skippy or jiff crunchy, smuckers orange marmalade... each heaped on their own slice.

Always a different knife! Both get licked

              PB warn and jelly cold

              No extras.

Now having said all that I do have a jar of PB in the fridge, the dogs have their own jar of natural stuff.

And even more blasphemous, while my sandwich may seem awfully specific, that's not my go to PB&J.

Large flour tortilla, spread PB across most of it and sometimes a large blob near the center too, microwave about 45 seconds, add cold jelly, wrap it burrito style!

Both ingredients applied with a spoon! And licked

              That's my favorite PB&J

                  1. Type of Bread? Milk bread from Asian markets (HMart or Mitsuwa here in SoCal)
                  2. Is there a specific brand of bread you insist on? See #1
                  3. Toasted or not toasted? Not toasted
                  4. With crust or without crust? With crust
                  5. Cut in half, diagonal, squares, or kept whole? Half
                  6. Chunky or Creamy peanut butter? Chunky
                  7. Is there a specific brand of peanut butter you insist on? Jif
                  8. Jelly, jam or preserves? Preserves
                  9. Flavor of jelly? Seedless blackberry
                  10. Is there a specific brand of jelly you insist on? Not really
                  11. Construction: peanut butter on one piece of bread and jelly on the other, peanut butter on both pieces of bread with jelly in the middle, or jelly on both pieces of bread with peanut butter in the middle? One slice, one food. PB on one. Jelly on the other
                  12. What is the proper PB to J ratio on the sandwich? I prefer a touch more PB than jelly
                  13. Do you use one knife for the peanut butter and a different knife for the jelly, or do you use one knife for both? One knife
                  14. if you use one knife - do you dip it into the peanut butter first, or the jelly first? PB
                  15. Immediately after spreading either the peanut butter or the jelly, do you lick the knife? No
                  16. If you lick the knife, do you lick the knife before you put it into the next jar, or do you only lick the knife at the end? N/a
                  17. After making your sandwich, do you put the knife back into the jar for an extra scoop for tasting? No
                  18. Do you keep the PB in the refrigerator or the pantry? Fridge
                  19. Do you keep the jelly in the refrigerator or the pantry? Fridge
                  20. Do you add anything additional to the sandwich besides PB&J (ex: raisins, honey, banana, whatever) no, then it’s not a PB&J
all this said, I also enjoy a good PB and Honey sandwich. Then it’s PB on both sides of the bread and honey gently swirled in.

                    1. Welches grape jelly, refrigerated, use a spoon or a squeeze bottle.
                    2. Skippy creamy peanut butter, unrefrigerated, use a knife.
                    3. Cinnamon raisin bagel from Bagelwich in Verona NJ, split in half, toasted if previously frozen.
                    4. Spread thick layer of Skippy on half of bagel using knife. Lick peanut butter off knife.
                    5. Spread a thick layer grape jelly on peanut butter using spoon or squeeze bottle. If using spoon, lick jelly off spoon.
                    6. Eat open faced. Get peanut butter and jelly on your face around your mouth. Watch jelly slide off peanut butter onto your shirt and pants.
                    7. Make Nesquick chocolate milk in a pint glass to wash it down.
When finished eating the first half bagel, repeat steps 1 - 7 for the other half of the bagel. Enjoy!

When done, take a shower or wash your face. Change your clothes and put your jelly stained clothes in the laundry.

If you aren’t using a knife and fork….you are eating it wrong!

I grew up eating sloppy PBJs. Toasted bread, chunky Jiff and grape jelly. Sounds good to me right now!

I prefer peanut butter and honey to PB&J. Jiff crunchy. Even better is a Nutella sandwich 😋. My go to breads are Dave’s Killer breads…red, blue, or green.
