Burgers and Dogs Cook Off For July 4th Anyone?

There was some discussion during the Memorial Day brisket cook of maybe doing burgers and dogs for The 4th Of July. Even though it’s not considered a difficult cook by any means, I’ve seen some jaw dropping burger pics from this group! There’s also been some awesome and creative hot dog pics as well. This would be a good time for everyone to show off your skills and creativity, plus, I mean….. it’s the 4th of July! Pretty sure you can be arrested for not doing burgers for the 4th…… 🧐

Since the 4th falls on a Tuesday this year we could turn it into a 5 day weekend!…..Friday 6/30 through Tuesday 7/4…..should be plenty of time for anyone who wants to, to join in. Smash burgers, grilled, smoked, pan fried burgers, whatever. Make your favorite hot dogs with all the toppings too. What do y’all think?

Richard Chrz is not eligible, we’ve seen his burgers, gives the rest of us a chance…….

I was thinking ribs, but maybe I’ll switch to my grandkids favorite - Slotdogs!

Panhead John a number of years ago someone posted a gadget called a Slotdog that put diamond shaped cuts in hotdogs. When you grill them the diamonds open up. It is a faster version of a spiral hot dog without the spiral. You press down on each side of the hot dog and quickly shut the diamonds. My grandkids love them.

I've got a Slotdog maker, too. My son loves 'em! I get 'em crosshatched, smoke 'em a while, them brush with a mustard-and-BBQ-sauce glace, fire 'em up to Warp 11 and get 'em crisped up. The diamond shaped crosshatches get crispified and awesome. I actually just picked up a damned $10 package of Nathan's 1/4 lb dogs that should be a-MAY-zing for this technique. The hardest part is going to be saving them till the 4th! Or... driving 45 miles each way to get another package to fire up on the 4th!

I must have missed the Slotdog contraption! Now you got me wanting one!

Not sure where I'll be at, but I'm sure there will be a grill of some sorts. So I'll toss my buns in the ring.

I'm in. I went yesterday to our local Wild Fork store and saw beef, bison, elk, wild boar, venison, yak, veal and ostrich grinds for burgers. Great excuse to try several of these on the grill but which ones? I may have to ask Richard Chrz for advice!

My Wild Fork order will be here tomorrow with some ground elk, venision, and buffalo. The buffalo is selling for the same price as my local grocery stores chuck.

It's all pretty lean for making burgers. I hope I don't screw them up. If it tastes good SWMBO will be happy and won't give me grief. If not.....

Purc I started a thread in the Game section, hopefully I'll get some input from those who know a thing or two about game burgers.
