    Costco prime brisket

    Yesterday, 11/19/2025. $5.99/lb.
Strikes me as reasonable. However, Costco should consider putting in a mortgage counter next to the meat.

Last Costco trip on my side of the mountains, it was Choice for $4.99/lb ..... great deal. Yes, you need a second mortgage to buy the meat ;-)

Personally, I like not even having a first mortgage!
      And no car payments.
Did spend $2.00 on a Texas cookbook.

I remember a few years ago it was $3.99/lb for full packer Prime at Costco. Looking forward to picking one up tomorrow to smoke this weekend but not looking forward to paying for it.

$3.29 Cincy. Right abt the time of the Big "C".
Have not seen Prime since, other than a very few specialty cuts.

Costco prime is my normal go-to, but my local grocery store has been carrying wagyu packer brisket at $6.99/lb since mid-summer, and I've picked up a couple of those to my great satisfaction.

Picked up a Costco prime brisket for the office party yesterday and it was $5.99/lb. Pretty good terms on the second mortgage though 😢

I have not bought brisket this year, and last one I think from the deep freeze was turned into pastrami. I used to get them for $2.99 for Prime at Costco, and Sam's had similar pricing. After those places went up, I then switched to any time I saw it on sale at Kroger for USDA choice, and did well with brisket at $2.99 and sometimes $1.99 a pound. But it has been a year since I saw it on sale that low.

My last trip in Sam's it was $5.49 for choice, and $5.99 for prime, and both had way more of that hard white fat than I like to see. I dropped my Costco membership after that club stopped filling propane tanks. I only went there for brisket, belly and propane.

I was in Costco last week, Prime was $5.99 and Choice was $4.99. However, all of the Choice briskets were 19+ pounds and the Prime were 10-15 pounds. Prime was the better option unless you wanted a really big brisket, all of the choices were over $100 and the Primes were much less expensive (mainly between $65 and $80).

I agree with you with the smaller Primes being a better deal, not only in net cost but in value. In my experience you get far less yield with the larger ones, greater percentage of trimmable fat coming off.

BKYDBBQ I picked up a Prime brisket today while in Costco. They only has prime and had maybe 6 in the case. I got the smallest one at just over 19lbs. Biggest brisket I've ever bought.

Here in TN Prime packers at Costco are $5.99 as I recall, maybe $6.99…haven’t bought one yet.

In CA I never paid more than $4.99 for a Prime packer, and it was the cheapest cut of beef I could by *anywhere* - barring a big sale.

For many years I enjoyed their $3.29 Prime brisket. Sometimes as low as $2.99. Post-plague they were out of stock for 12-18 months, and when they came back they were always north of $4, but still the cheapest beef cut available - even cheaper than Choice packers at Costco!

Now I can find several cuts of beef for less money, so brisket will only be purchased when I want to make barbecue. In CA it was my go to for chili, pot roast, grinding for burgers…everything was brisket!

I looked at the Sam’s Club app, prime is $5.98/lb and choice is $4.98/lb.

              However… “prime trimmed brisket”, $6.18/lb?

I guess I’d have to look at it. It’s different from the brisket flats, which are $9.27/lb.

Last week I stopped by a Costco Business Center and instantly fell in love with the load of Prime full packer briskets. The $6.29/lb price stung a little, but seeing that mountain of ready to smoke beef made it hard to stay mad—they had plenty to choose from.

Unless I'm getting a great discount (or in the managers special section) or size is an issue, I would never buy Prime for cuts like brisket, chuck, tri-tip, etc. I would also never buy a Prime fillet. Generally speaking, you are not getting a better cut of beef. I would go with Choice for all the cuts described above.

I agree, I think…. never been a fan of prime for those cuts, but
The quality of choice has gotten really spotty here. Just had a tough brisket last month. Did get a full mason jar of tallow though.

If prime were at least consistent, I might switch. 🤔

Johnny Booth When beef is graded, the only muscle graded is the rib. If the rib muscle is graded Prime, the whole cow is Prime. That’s what was explained to me by an old time butcher. Maybe it has changed. So he told me to pay attention to the grading with regards to ribeye, everything else just do your best. But never buy Prime fillets he told me. Grading depends on marbling and fillets have very little marbling to begin with….FWIW.

TripleB is correct; just one site sampled results in a grade for the whole critter. Use your eyes. I have occasionally found what I would term American Wagyu graded Choice.

                      I agree, I guess I shouldn’t complain when I get one not-so-nice.
All brisket is good, and it never goes to waste around here.

I live in the Silicon Valley area of Northern California. Locally, any cut of brisket under $10lb is a bargain.
