TxF It will take me about 3 1/2 hours to get there, so if I leave by 7:00 am I should be fine. Don, are you still planning to go? Bill, what about Purc? You still planning to go?

klflowers If you’re flying into San Antonio it’ll be an almost 2 hour drive to Interstellar BBQ, which is in Austin. [98 miles and approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes]

I just called Interstellar BBQ and asked about the lines. She said on a Thursday the lines shouldn’t be too bad if you get there by 10:30, that’s when it really starts picking up, and they open at 11. She said “usually” if you’re there by 10:30 you might have an additional 15-20 minute wait once they open.

There were no good places to sit or really lean on, an hour and a half was pretty rough. There were 2 elementary school kids painting on their tablets in front of me sitting on the ground. The guys behind me were a ‘local’ who lived in the area since 2016 and his friend from LA who came for ACL and F1. About 20min of race cares a which like was best were about all I could do.

Panhead John Maybe this can be the thing to do, each year just scribble out the old and keep adding the new.

10:30 would be my guess, I don’t expect that many people out on a Thursday.

Life is getting in way here too. Not giving up, yet, but not looking good. Med changes have triggered gout in ankle, although i could cane and ride golf cart through airports. Worse is boarding dog, Vivy. Vet, where I board her (rarely) didn't have power till Sun night, same as me. Trying to take care of found pets, few pets of people still evacuated, and those with poor or unlivable homes. Taking one in to board, as one leaves. I think they would work her in somehow, but I hate to do that. Since second storm, she is even more attached to me than usual, which is normally like glue, so don't want to even look for somewhere new. If I was walking better, or was sure I would be, I might just say heck with it, throw her in car, and take road trip. I'm going to see how the next couple days go, although if someone is clearly able, I would give up my room. Will keep you all posted. Mother nature truly sucks sometimes.

Dang, that’s terrible! I’m truly sorry for all you and you pup are going through. Take care. I hate that you’ll miss the ceremonial throwing out of the first lie on Thursday night. There will be other meetups. Hope you feel better soon.

I forgot to mention we’ll be having foot races again this time, with prizes being awarded to the winner. Here’s a video of me and Oak Smoke at The MeatUp last April. He’s pretty quick so I had to cheat a little.

My money is on Oak Smoke emphasis on the "smoke". PJ will probably try to mail ballot in the win.

        Huge dislike

I resigned my motel reservation this morning. I hate it, but I just can't see going. The past few weeks have sucked all the wind out of my sails, I can just about get off the sofa right now. I'm limping somewhat, but just didn't want to take the risk of getting worse miles from home. Vivy would have been boarded as an add on, and she is still jumpy every time the wind blows. I just couldn't see it. Delta and the motel couldn't have been nicer, I will be there in spirit. At some point, I promise to show up. Heck, you guys could just all come to my house next year, Viv and I would be down with that.

You really should attend a meetup before you invite us all over. I haven’t even come close to figuring out all this group is capable of. Please take care of yourself. We’ll see you when times get better. Just don’t be a stranger here.

Hope you feel better before long, we'll have another Meat Up soon.

On a far less competitive note, Texas Monthly just listed the 50 best tacos in the state. EIGHT of them are in Austin. TEN are in San Antonio.

I’m sure I could fit a taco or two into the weekend.

Also, Loli’s Cafe in San Marcos has killer breakfast tacos. It’s 100% drive thru, you pick up your tacos and bring them back to the hotel. These are worth fitting into the schedule, at least once. Last time around I tried the Combo Ranchero: egg, bacon, bean, cheese, and ranchero sauce, one with green sauce and one with red. these are photos taken by Loli’s customers:

It should be pretty easy, I think. A poll of those present, along with a group text of “Who wants breakfast tacos?”, take orders, plan a time, and done. My only problem would be wanting one of everything for breakfast, on a day where I’m already planning on getting one of everything at multiple other places.

I’ve gained 50lbs just from the pics in this thread.

Just a reminder for the folks driving in, you might want to consider bringing a cooler and a folding chair. Kreuz Market in Lockhart supposedly has some really good sausage. I’m going to pick some up to bring home and freeze. Some people might want to buy extra BBQ themselves, to bring home. Just as a reminder, our rooms all have a full size fridge with freezer. Also, in case of a long BBQ line, a folding chair would come in handy.

Panhead John I know they ship. Last time I checked the rates were high, but they look reasonable now. I'll just have to try to restrain myself being in store

It is with sadness that just breaks my heart but I have to cancel my reservations. I’m sick! I’m mean really sick . I thought It would just be a 24 hour bug. This is day 3 of headache down the back of my neck and headache across above my eyes. Couple that with 3 days of being covered with a quilt and a folded Pendleton wool blanket while I’m hammered with nausea, cold chills , and fever. I’m weak, tired and feel bad all over. I wouldn’t dare chance passing this on to any of y’all. There will be another meet up. I hate it that there are so many people going to be there who I wanted to meet in person. It just wasn’t meant to be. Prayers for safe travel and a great time for all.

pasmom Mitzi I feel the same way. I really looked forward to seeing you again. I enjoyed our conversations. I’ve been sitting here hatching a plot. If I get over this I may call and get a room for either Friday and Saturday night or just Saturday night. The neighbors have all had this and they say it leaves as quickly as it comes. If it’s meant to be I would love to salvage part of the meetup. So good to hear from you!
