We've got the room booked and plane tickets purchased. My wife, Sonia, and I will be there Thursday through Sunday. Looking forward to some good food and putting faces to a bunch of names. Also hoping to check out the Austin music scene at least one night.
Is anyone thinking of going to the US women's national soccer team game on Thursday?
San Marcos is north middle between Austin and San Antonio. Austin soccer stadium is in the north part of Austin. My guess is that’s at least 2 hrs between the hotel and sitting in a seat.
Thanks Panhead John we went to Tejas chocolate & BBQ and it was pretty awesome. We got brisket, green chile and cheese sausage, green beans, and their cornbread thing. Then, of course, we had to grab a few chocolates to take with us. It was a great lunch.
Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
If we go to Lockhart again, we should try to get to Kreuz Market and Smitty’s, both for the sausage, in addition to Panhead John wants to go to Terry Black’s again (it is excellent) and I have no problem with Barb’s, it is fantastic.
(I wonder if I can get Joey Chestnut to train me on this eating thing? I’m gonna need it.)
I’ve read a few comparisons that say T Black’s is better than Kreuz’ on most things, but that Kreuz’ sausages reign supreme. And that Smitty’s sausage is also excellent. With that in mind, it could be possible to do quick hits everywhere, rather than full meals. I love my quality sides, but unless you’re serving me charro beans or green spaghetti, I can skip the creamed corn, collards, etc. this time.
TxF At first I thought you were kidding…😂 Then I googled it…there really is glass bottom boat tours right in San Marcos. Hell, I’m game! Anyone else? They’re only $12. and last about 30 minutes. This is something we could do Saturday after lunch maybe? Here’s a link…
You can rent the whole boat for $180 and it holds 20 people.
As far as the pub thing goes there is a bar downtown that has happy minutes at 3:00, 3 beers for $1.50 and it lasts 15 minutes which is what was missing from the Nixon recordings.
Julia and I made a couple of attempts to get there, but parking was a beast with classes going on. TX State has about 40000 students and most commute. We used to be regulars at the Austin location which is now gone.
I'm still really REALLY torn about attending this. I haven't canceled my hotel plans yet. I'd like to (attend, I mean). But my concerns still hold, finances are up in the air unless I sell my offset I've got up on Marketplace. And I really feel like I don't want to drive the Tahoe that far. Gashog for one. My Z hasn't started in months, but I haven't done anything to it to try to get it running. I think it's something with the alarm that is causing an electrical short, and I need to just dig into it and pull the alarm. Also, one channel of the stereo is out, so driving 9 hours each way only having 'tunes' out of the right side is seriously annoying. <sigh> All things being considered the Tahoe would be a better ride, just costs so much in fuel.
I'll keep thinking about it. I'll talk to The Wife, but I know she'll tell me to go.
Actually, what she'll tell me is to take HER car, but I just don't LIKE driving her car. Plus, I can't pollute it the way I do mine. Smokes make the drive easier to tolerate. lol
Not gonna promise or commit one way or the other. I'm thinking of lowering the price of the smoker again, but it seriously hurts my heart to do so, after all the work I've put in it, and I KNOW it's WORTH what I'm asking, just convincing other people to SEE it in the pictures is tough. <sigh>
Plus, with the election coming up and all, and the economy being what it is... you know... one of the strongest economic recoveries... it's historic, you know.... amiright???

Well, Mrs Mosca had AFIB last month, and saw a cardiologist last week, and now has a stress test scheduled for October 8th. Obviously that result could make a difference for me. We were hoping it wouldn’t be until November.
Which, of course I’m fine either way. Texas isn’t going anywhere.
Ok it's finally official. Flying into San Antonio Thursday morning. Arriving pretty early at 9:30. I plan on renting a car - I have lots of Enterprise points - so if anyone needs a lift let me know. I may bring some real chili and pizza with pineapple

Reason: Arriving thursday not wednesday
I’m in! Things have fallen in place. I made the reservations this morning. Now I’m headed to Walmart to get a new outfit I felt so overdressed at the pillow fight last year.
Mosca Are you thinking of Interstellar maybe? Earlier in this thread, or maybe the Roster thread?, some people talked about going to Interstellar Thursday.
Here’s a few pics from 2 years ago….the MeatUp held in Blanco, and we all went to The Burnt Bean.
Brisket, Ribs, Jalapeño and Cheddar Sausage, Cowboy Beans and their Flaming Hot Queso Mac, all were A+!
Front left and clockwise: Uncle Bob’s wife Lee, Texas Larry and wife Renee, RonB, Klflowers, 58limited and Uncle Bob

If anyone else is considering coming to the MeatUp, you must book your room before October 10 to receive our special group rate. On that date the hotel will release the remaining rooms in our block to the general public and you cannot get the discounted rate of $139. any longer. In the meantime, if anyone else does want to attend, please call the hotel directly at 512-812-0044 and ask for Marissa or Jeanetta, tell them you’re with the AmazingRibs.com group and they’ll give you the special rate, up to and including October 9…. THE LINK FOR THE GROUP RATE AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS POST IS NO LONGER VALID.
Carry on!
