        I know for certain this book transformed grilling and just cooking in general. (And that it was the gateway to this place certainly didn't hurt.)

        It's fun to think about what set that book apart from other BBQ books, both then and now. Many books have a almost mystical reverence towards the 'mystery' of grilling and smoking. (Yes, even my beloved Steven Raichlen falls into this from time to time.)

        Meathead's book, on the other hand is grounded in practicality. Not only is BBQing explained factually (and often with good use of humor) the explanations are easy for anyone to understand, and if one wanted to expend the effort, fairly straightforward to reproduce. Science at its best, as it were.

              I love that it reads like an interesting textbook, which from me is about as high a compliment I can give. As Michael_in_TX says, so many bbq books trade on the mystique, presenting an aura of difficulty that Meathead punctures and deflates, like Toto pulling the curtain back on The Great and Mysterious Oz. “It’s a big piece of meat. Cook it. Here’s how.”

                  Congrats! I love the book, looking forward to the next, and that is saying a lot. I have 200+ cookbooks, can't seem to stop (there are more expensive addictions...) but this one tends to stay out of the shelf, and on the counter. I still recall, years ago when I just started following AR, seeing an interview of Harry Connick Jr, on some talk show. They were talking about grilling/barbeque, and the interviewer asked where he had learned. He said something like "I grew up in New Orleans", but then said "when I really need help though, I call my friend Meathead." I remember thinking "what?", there can only be one Meathead in BBQ. I was sold on the website, the book, and the whole ball of wax, way back then.

                    That's awesome, my love for outdoor cooking started after a trip to the library where I found Meathead's book. Bought a copy soon after and then the journey began.

                            Congrats.. I don't know in what proportions its the book, amazingribs.com, or the spots on the BBQ Central podcast,
