I had to put this 10-point buck down last night. I think it broke its leg on a fence. I saw him up and hoping around the field. I am sure he was in a ton of pain and with sub zero temps on the way, he would not have made it much longer. I already have all the venison I can eat, so I figured instead having him suffer and letting the coyotes have him, I would take the meat and grind most of it for Ripley. I took the back straps for the grill and the head will go up at the sauna to expand our collection. I will boil it and make a European mount out of it.

The good thing is, his insides were intact and there did not appear to be any internal bleeding, so I doubt he was hit by a car or anything. Just an unfortunate deer that had a rough go at it. At least the meat will go to good use.

I took the heart out for Ripley. He loves beef heart, so I figured he would love this. I was amazed at how big the heart was.

My nephew got his first deer, a buck, 10 pointer. I told him congrats, many hunt a lifetime and never get one like this. To his credit, he’s always hopped up in the mornings when the alarm clocks rings. His brother, not so much.

On my recent visit to Milton, GA, fishing with my son and youngest granddaughter in the city owned stocked pond. It's a 5 minute drive to this park. I'm not sure a pink rod would be accepted everywhere.

Got one more rifle hunt real quick in the morning. Muzzleloader next two Saturdays. Successfully moved a stand that I forgot about....just happen to see it sticking out like a sore thumb while scouting. It'll be a go to next bow season.

Doe let her presence known at 9am and 10am. Got tired of listening to her so I ate lunch. Beef in BBQ Sauce on Tortillas and an Oatbrick Chocolate Chunk Cookie.

If I don't get a doe during archery it is my only chance to get one. I have a CVA Accura MRX 45 caliber, 90 grains (volume) 777 powder and 195 grain Barnes ExpanderMZ boooletts.

Can you recommend a good one for me to start with. I hunt the brush mainly. Prefer American made.

Oak Smoke yessir, its a big ole tom bob. I have always had good lick with rabbit in distress, and or woodpecker in distress. If dad dont get him by the end of squirrel season, ill be putting my night scope on either my .17HMR or my .22-250 and trying to pinch his ticket. Would look great in the corner of my office or on the hearth.

texastweeter I’m sure you have access to a great taxidermist. I have seen more messed up mounts of Bob cats than any other animal. I have no idea why but they challenge even experienced taxidermist. It’s why I decided long ago to go with a rug with head and claws on rather than a body mount when I mount one.

Well my season is officially over. Got some spots to get ready for next year. One new spot, one not so new but new enough. Also need to fine tune my current good spot.

Contemplating game cameras, but that typically happens every five years. I get a few, complete with locking cables and.....they get thefted. Really don't feel like seeing pictures of bucks I'll never see while hunting.

Remnants of a muzzleloader cleaning pictured.

Jerod Broussard are you strictly a trophy hunter? We are over run with does and smaller bucks. There are true trophies around but they don’t show themselves often. We literally have to drive slowly at night when we leave the house to keep from hitting them.

Oak Smoke Not hardly. Antler restrictions, if a buck has at least 2 points per side it much be at least 13" inside. I only saw one in that category chasing 2 does and home dude twas not stoppin'. All the other bucks (4+) were too small to be legal and no spikes (technically only one side needs a spike, I can take one spike). I can only shoot females during archery and muzzleloader here on PUBLIC, and as luck would have it, them ****CENSORED**** only show up during rifle.

Jerod Broussard we need to talk before next season. Good grief I never dreamed it was that difficult where you are. There’s a huge chunk of corp of engineers land that borders me on the south. You can archery hunt it all you want for the price of a 25 dollar permit. No one hunted it that I know of this year. It’s a jungle. It is perfect for archery.
