So if I make it thinner and call it vegetable beef soup…? So many rules around anything that has Texans involved in it!😉

Technically it’s called “beef and vegetable soup”. We are also going to be strict with the proper names of the soups…any soups that are incorrectly labeled will be disqualified..😉

If we can take any concoction and have a choice of either a plate or bowl to serve it on then it is not a soup.
If a bowl or similar container must be used to contain the liquid in the concoction then it is a soup.
A well prepared beef stew with a gravy can be eaten either in a bowl or off of a plate.
A well prepared Chicken and Dumplings can be served either in a bowl or off a plate.
Oyster stew, while it has the word stew in the name, would be hard to contain unless it is served in a bowl or similar container so it is a soup.

I will add some information from other sites that I read before I posted the plate vs bowl idea above.
‘Stew is made using a cooking technique called braising. In fact, from a culinary standpoint, the words stewing and braising mean the same thing. Braising is a moist-heat cooking technique that breaks down tough cuts of meat and turns them tender and succulent. It's done at low heat over a relatively long period of time in a pot with a lid on, either on the stovetop or in the oven.’
‘Stews are similar to soups, and in some cases there may not be a clear distinction between the two. Generally, stews have less liquid than soups, are much thicker and require longer cooking over low heat. While soups are almost always served in a bowl, stews may be thick enough to be served on a plate with the gravy as a sauce over the solid ingredients.‘
’The popular distinction between these two foods is how “liquidy” or how thick they are: a dish called soup typically has more liquid in it than a stew does. Stews are generally thicker than soups, being made up primarily of larger, solid chunks of ingredients. In other words, stews are thicker and chunkier—and always have solid ingredients.
Generally speaking, if there is so much liquid that the ingredients are fully submerged, it’s a soup. If the chunks dominate the dish, it’s a stew.’
’A stew is a combination of solid food ingredients that have been cookedin liquid and served in the resultant gravy.’

Basically a duplicate post from what I put up on the other thread but this is my all time favorite.
Lunds & Byerlys Minnesota Wild Rice Soup (I like to use SPAM instead of ham cause I am weird like that)
This is a killer recipe and one that is a childhood favorite. My mom used to make this all the time. I love coming home from school on those cold winter days and smelling this in the kitchen. Then taking off snow stuff, sliding up to that counter and digging into this creamy greatness. The rice pops in your mouth and the SPAM (or ham) is a really nice, salty touch. It is soma that northern hospitality in a bowl. I love it.

I’m in, I like making soup. My favorites are cream of broccoli cheddar soup and beef barley soup. I love barley and generally add a little extra and when I make it the first day it’s a soup, but after it being out into fridge and reheated it becomes more of a stew because the barley soaks up most of the liquid.

Since we’re getting close to January, do you guys and gals have any particular weekend you’d like to do….AR’s 25th Annual 😳 Souper Bowl?
Since a lot of people seem to want to do it ASAP, I was thinking the first full weekend in January, which would be the Friday the 6th thru Sunday the 8th. What do y’all think? If there’s enough interest we could even do a Thursday thru Monday, it would allow more participation possibly.
