New Years Eve plans and menu

What's going on New Years Eve? Quiet one this year just the two of us home to celebrate. Lobster tails, sides unknown as of now. I have a real good bottle of champagne to cork. Any suggestions on sides are welcome.

I've done a NYE Brisket the past few years. Hoping to do another this year.

I'll be scarfing down "free" hot dogs & cookies at FedEx Field, might even have a few $16 beers or whatever they cost these days

No plans at all as usual. No special dinner menu either. Just another day for us really.

Since there is no ice up or snow up north, we are Headed to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl.

Actually, Sabrina's sister's boyfriend plays for AL, so we are going to support him. Gonna be real tough for me to cheer for a non-BigTen team in the Rose Bowl. (I will secretly be pulling for Michigan)

No plans for NYE. Hopefully low-key until game day on Jan 1.

Yeah, I've already spent a lot on this whole thing. (Eye roll) However, it will be a great time with lots of memories. Clark

Will be home for a quiet evening snuggled up by the fire probably watching a Christmas movie! I plan to make Clam Chowder for dinner. It will be the first time I've made it, so I will have a backup! I am certain we will not make it til Midnight for the festivities, though we are looking very forward to the new year and what it may bring.

Friends just called they want to come up for New Years and ski. We have enough lobster but no longer a quite evening. Going to make this recipe French Onion by Chef Tom.
Chef Tom fires up the Yoder Smokers YS640s Pellet Grill for a beefy, cheesy, rich French Onion Soup featuring a Creekstone Farms prime beef short rib for added goodness!

Haven’t decided yet, but I’m leaning towards a Tomahawk ribeye for New Year’s Eve…..

A serious question, PJ (and others): what does a Tomahawk ribeye offer besides a WOW factor and an inflated price? Does the bone contribute to the flavor? (I'll say no)

Willy I’ve only had one before and there’s not any taste difference that I could tell, except I like chewing the meat off the bone, of any steak with a bone. They are generally thicker than a boneless ribeye, as they’re cut to the width of the bone. And yeah, there’s a lot of wow factor I think. So, if I post my tomahawk steak at SUWYC, please comment….WOW!…..😂

I recall going on get a tomahawk on sale. This is at least a couple years ago. I asked the butcher where they were. He said I could cut one for you. Or I could cut you a ribeye. Same cut but no bone. You want to pay for the bone? He had me. Make it 2. I've never thought of buying a tomahawk since that encounter.

We had tickets for the Broncos game but not wanting to be out driving on New Year's Eve, I sold them to some sucker for more than I paid who wanted to watch bad football in person. Instead, we will be pulling out of the freezer the last of what we cooked for Christmas Day and watching bad football at home.

New Year's Day is old school southern black-eyed peas, corn bread, cabbage, and shrimp cocktail that are all for good luck and money in the new year.

For Lobster tails, I would start with a nice french onion soup (make it on Thursday and allow it to rest until Sunday), mushroom risotto, and asparagus.. and I would give my lobster tail to my wife and make myself a very nice reverse seared steak...

Good deal on selling the Broncos tickets. Yes I'm going to make the soup ahead, its always better in case of a disaster and it does taste better after aging a bit.

There's the old joke about why John Elway's car dealership failed. Seems if customers were afraid to take the cars on the road.

Bkhuna, I thought it was because he was a slow white bronco.

My daughter and family will be here for new years eve day, lunch. I'm planning on Poor Man's Burnt Ends mostly likely done on the Kettle the day before. I'll also make my reverse jalapeño popper dip. There will be pigs in the blanket and Nancy will make her pizza dip. If the kids want burgers and hotdogs I'll throw them on the Spirit. That will get Nancy and me through NYE. NYD chill and watch football.

Eating lobster on new years is bad luck, they move backwards through the water. We are having a city cured venison ham with a peach habanero glaze, collards with wild hog ham hock, cornbread, and black eyed peas.

Won't be the first or last time I've eaten them on New Years and so far so good. Anyway these lobsters are from the southern hemisphere, they walk forward.

Pioneer woman's is similar and the one we use. It's best on toasted baguettes to me.
