But Renee makes a wonderful beef & vegetable soup that is a cool weather staple. Very simple but absolutely delicious and satisfying. We sometimes take pots of it to sick friends/family who rave about it.
This is the time of year when the humidity is down and the temps are reasonable. It’s when you can do long cooks outside without danger of melting. I’ll be using the grill for more than just sausages, burgers, and searing sous vide steaks. And I’ll be smoking away. What, I don’t know yet. But I’ll be smoking.
Oh, and I’ll be making chili and stews because I might be living in Florida, but the Chicagoan in me is still around.
And of course, that chili will have plenty of beans.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Carolyn While not a strict recipe here is an overview: bacon chopped and cooked in frypan, add in chopped celery and onion till translucent, add in cubed boiling potato 4-5 minutes, add chicken broth/salt/pepper/ parsley simmer 20 min, add red bell pepper or carrots if you like, add graded block cheddar, add milk or cream
We usually don't get REAL winter, but on those super cold days chili or stew hits the spot... for a chilly day almost any soup is great but I'm a sucker for a great french onion or beef and barley

We don't get much of a winter in So. Cal, but we get something. Once every 15 years or so we get some snow flakes here in the foothills. Makes you appreciate the spring.
