Take The "Food Disgust Test", Post Your Results

In reading through the latest edition of Dave Joachim's DigestThis.news Bulletin which just came out today, (do you get it? you can get it free) I was intrigued by the Food Disgust Test he mentioned so I took it. Quiz link: https://www.idrlabs.com/food-disgust/test.php?utm_campaign=DigestThis&utm_medium=web&ut m_source=DigestThis_55

My level of food disgust is 25.88%, which is considered low. Mine are mostly hygiene related. I thought I was more 'don't care' regarding food disgust so even though it's low I was surprised.

A couple things I cannot do:
    • I despise a salad in which the lettuce is soft. Can't eat it.
    • I also have zero interest in anything made from insects, even if they're covered in chocolate. No thanks.

Some things that do no bother me are
    • hair in the food (who cares? pull it out),
    • if someone I know touched my food,
    • sharing a sip from a glass of someone I know also doesn't bother me at all,
    • "bloody" steak (it's not blood!), and
    • the smell of a fish market or butcher shop

Please take the quiz here and post your results. It's 32 questions, you slide the scale from middle (neither agree nor disagree) to partially agree/disagree, or totally agree/disagree.

42.5%, mold, insect contamination and other nasty human contact were my high points. Also not into raw fish for some odd reason.

I don't mind sushi but don't love it either (my wife and daughter like it so we end up at a sushi place occasionally). I do, however, enjoy raw clams and oysters as well as seared Ahi Tuna.

Like Huskee I went for years and never tried sushi. Finally did, and I love it.

Who's the ding ding that put the "next" button on the left and "back" button on the right? It's screwing with me.

32% for me, with Mold, Insects and Human Contaminants listed on the higher side. Moldy stuff, usually gets thrown away in my house. It’s not often, but if I see mold I usually toss it. Unless it’s on berries, I’ll pick around the batch to make sure it’s clean and eat from there.

as for people touching my food, I guess that depends. But…..and if I’m in a restaurant, hair in the food is pretty gross. I’ve worked through that a number of times, but…haha! Still grosses me out!

35.something % for me. I struggled with the "overripe fruit" question. I hate overripe apples and will definitely chuck those, but I'm good with bananas as long as they will hold together and not fall apart when I try to peel them. Actually, the really ripe ones get cut into chunks and individually bagged up and stored in the freezer for smoothies at my house.

I feel uncomfortable when I see raw meat. Well, after touring countless large and small kill plants in my time.........pretty much nothing bothers me as far as this goes. I will say and contrary to popular believe Kosher kill plants are far more brutal, gruesome and messy for lack of a better term than any other beef plants I have been to.

Anyway here was my score. Things have to be pretty bad to bother me when it comes to food. Although, I really do not like poultry. To many small bones, cartilage pieces, veins, etc. Plus, birds are throughly disgusting animals. Can't stand them. (especially geese!) The poultry kill plants and farms are the worst in the business. (Even worse than Kosher kill plants) I avoid eating poultry if I can. I do love wings though.

I would say inhumane. Watching some sochet basically saw through the neck with a 15 inch knife, while the steer is still awake and fully aware.........inhumane is an understatement. I've got pictures that I wish I could share to prove it. Attjack

I guess I’m the picky one in the group. I hit a wonderful 53.25 %. The upside is you’ll get fresh clean food eating at my house. In my defense I’ve had real food poisoning 4 times in my life. This last one sent me to the doctor and my wife to the emergency room twice, she hates going to the Dr. We were both very sick. She is still not back to normal and her clothes just hang on her. She has lost an amazing amount of weight. No more take out Chinese for me.

Wow! That's awful. Yeah I'd be singing a different tune if that had happened to me. I don't think I've ever had food poisoning, at least that I know of for sure.

Huskee You would know if you got the real deal. It makes the stuff you take before a colonoscopy look like an amateur, with fever, cold chills, and a head ache.

Interesting, they are really testing "disgust" and not simply aversion. One of the questions asked whether one was "disgusted" by dirty silverware. I am not "disgusted" in any sense, but I wouldn't use it and would get some clean stuff.

              So, 25%,

It seems like fruit and vegetables should be the same category as basically it's the same sort of disgust--old decaying food.

Semantics could clutter it a bit I suppose. I think the general feel is if you'd say "no thanks" to anything and reach for something fresher/cleaner/etc, then it "disgusts" you, for the purpose of this quiz. I would of course opt for the soup without the hair in it, but a hair in my soup doesn't disgust me.

65.63% I never really thought of myself as picky, but I must have cleanliness around my food. Also, please keep your hands out of my food. Forget the insects also. I want meat.

no questions about food temps surprised us

                "Refrigerators above 43 degrees?"
"Cooking chicken by time instead of temp?"
                "Eating pink pork?"
