Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I’ve heard that story more than once, and the reason I believe it is that Wendy’s actually makes a very broadly liked chili. It’s like the top 40s music of chili: it’s corporate, it hits the right beats, and no one is going to be offended by it. It could easily win a neighborhood cook off, and I’m absolutely certain that there are plenty of smart alecks around the country who would do this.Originally posted by randy56 View PostAn easy win, Yo Texans, as you all do not put the most important BEANS in chili. You have already seen my (2nd place chili) in the last smack, and it was first for me posting pictures. I'm in.
True story, we had a local chili cook off, the winner, a guy went and bought a gallon of Wendy's chili warmed it up, and won. Of course he did not tell, until after it was over. LOL
Regarding beans and authenticity: I enjoy purist arguments, they’re fun. But as a practical matter, beans get added to chili because they are healthier, and, more importantly, they are cheaper; they stretch the recipe for families feeling the budget crunch. IMO that is a far more persuasive argument for adding beans than any regional or purist argument against them. Chili with beans is delicious. (Chili without beans is delicious, too.)
If you really want to be a purist, chili has water, cubed beef, garlic, cumin, and chile peppers. And maybe some masa for thickening, if you have it. Everything else is a variation, and if you allow one variation, you have to allow them all.Last edited by Mosca; September 11, 2022, 08:57 AM.

You guys really think you can compete with me!? The last competition my wife, son and I competed in my wife won overall with her White Chili, my son won the Sweet category with his recipe from White Castle (for those of you familiar with the chain, a class mate of his when we lived in the St. Louis area had a father who owned a number of the St. Louis stores and he shared the recipe), and I won the hot category (once again) with my Fire & Brimstone Chili. Not hard to do, in my opinion mine is generally the only one that's really hot in the competitions I've been in. Mostly church, school or business related. I'll make up a crock pot full when the church has a soup supper, and make the women serve it. It's always all gone by the end.
So, I'm in! I'll start stocking up on beans.

DaveD Usually, it's the Women's Fellowship that puts on the Soup Suppers. They usually have someone who makes a nice mild tomato juice/hamburger/beans chili. With just a dash of chili powder. Or they put that separate on the tables so people can add their own. Sometimes they make the "mistake" of asking people to donate their favorite soup. Sometimes I just tell them I'm bringing it. Hard to say no to the pastor. Might get you sent to hell. Or, you can eat Fire & Brimstone chili instead. 🤣

I of course love smoked meats of all kinds, but also like quick cooks like chicken portions, pork tenderloins, steak and fish. Really into cooking of all kinds.
My outdoor kitchen has a Lone Star Grillz Adjustable and it is wonderful. There also is a Pit Boss 5 Burner Ultimate Griddle and a Pit Boss Copperhead pellet grill.
There is an outdoor fire pit that has grilling capability and limited Santa Maria-style grill raising and lowering.

I’m going to make a Navajo green chili. I haven’t made that in years. It’ll be a good use for those Hatch peppers!

For anyone who’s joined AR after September 2020, this is a MUST READ CHILI POST!
If you think the Pellet Pooper VS Stick Burner Smackdown was fun, I’m thinking the Chili Cookoff could top that one! This post was started by ecowper innocently asking…..â€What Goes In Your Chili?†It’ll take about 10-15 minutes to read the whole post, but it will be worth your time. Please note how the comments get a little more "spirited" as the night wears on. This post is a legend here at AR……You’re welcome!

WayneT If you overdo the chocolate, a shot of espresso solves the problem.
Also, Panhead John is responsible for me posting about carrots in chili.
