We buy the 18 pack, cause I'm eatin two every morn, picking the biggest ones out first, no matter where they are parked, broken shells go back in where they came from.

Are you neurotic (like me) with eggs in the egg cartons?

I’ve never considered balancing out the carton and probably never will, and we always start pulling from one side working our way across the carton which works just fine. "But then the weight will all be on one side and the carton will be flimsy. Anarchy!" you say, but this concern comes from not knowing where the weight distribution is in the carton. Alas, this is not the case. Lets suppose, as in the case in my house, you have the carton on the counter and you have six eggs on one side and none on the other, nearly a worst case scenario. When you go to put the eggs back in he fridge which side are you going to grab? The heavy side of course and you know what side is the heavy side because you just closed the thing. So into the fridge it goes, and the next time it comes out guess where the heavy side is…. right in your hand.
Point in case my wife just made eggs for my son so I went into the fridge unbeknownst to her to look and here’s the proof. No thinking involved, just the bulk of the weight right where you’d expect it to be. We can still be friends but maybe you’re looking into this a little too hard

The horror! 😱
Eggs should be in the 1,3 and 6 position. 😂

I was thinking of this today as I opened a new carton and remove one egg. From each end. So they balance. scottranda and I might be long lost brothers.

I am dealing with this situation right now. It is intolerable! A few days ago, I broke an egg and had it spill out onto the counter, resulting in an odd number of eggs in the carton. I can't just eat one egg for breakfast and three would be excessive (eggcessive?). So for several days I have had to look at that odd number.Originally posted by scottranda View PostPS— I still hate odd eggs 🥚
Do you know how ruinous it is to one's tranquility to see that the first thing in the morning?
An egg wash! Yes, that's it! That only requires a single egg! Bread! I must make bread....burger buns! Yes! The key to my sanity is at hand!

This is an interesting, yet odd, thread I never noticed before. I hate egg cartons in general. Love eggs 'tho. I cook usually 3 every morning I'm not rushing out the door, I eat half and dog gets half. She seems to prefer scrambled with cheese. I get them, two dozen at a time, from a farmer through my co-op. In true co-op style, he puts on open mats with two dozen "buckets", and takes the mats back for reuse. I hate the extra ten seconds it requires to remove a carton or mat from fridge to retrieve said eggs. I decant them into a clear plastic bin, so I can open fridge door, reach in and grab egg/s, and go. I take the bin to co-op when I need, then decant them there and hand back the mat. No recycling or returning needed. I also alternate white and brown, so I can tell which are oldest and use them first. One of the farmers has Auraucana chickens, with blue/green eggs, and those get mixed in at times, although they throw off my brown/white older/newer system completely. So, you see, some of us are just not neurotically obsessed with our eggs!

I touch, (so they move), each egg in the carton before I even select the carton I am buying. If it does not move that tells me it is glued in (from a broken shell), and move on to the next carton. After purch I remove them from the cardboard container and transfer to a styrofoam crate. They are not providing those anymore and the carboard ones are too flimsy to stay closed plus provide enough support to handle in and out of the fridge. If I get home and any eggs are broken I know it was my doing and I can live with that. E.A.D.H.D. Egg attention deficit handling disorder.

One of the advantages of an OCD wife is that I don’t have to worry about these things. We get eggs from the girl at the hardware store. Remember we are very rural. When I get home with them my wife puts them in her clear trays in the fridge and hands me the cartons back. They go to the back seat of my pickup so I can drop them back off at the hardware store. I know when I reach for a tray of eggs in the fridge the oldest eggs are at the front of the tray and the oldest tray is on the right. Life is simple and good! An OCD wife can be such an asset. I never have to fold towels or sheets, never arrange furniture, put up groceries, or decorate for holidays. I just say that’s incredible and fall in love deeper.

Weber Summit Kamado with SnS and Vortex.. Broil King Baron, Primo Oval Junior. Primo XL. Love grilling steaks, ribs, and chicken. Need to master smoked salmon. Absolutely love anything to do with baking bread. Favorite cool weather beer: Sam Adams Octoberfest Favorite warm weather beer: Yuengling Traditional Lager. All-time favorite drink: Single Malt Scotch
We normally get eggs in the cardboard cartons, so I try to make sure all the eggs are placed towards the center to avoid accidents caused by flimsy cartons!
