Are you neurotic (like me) with eggs in the egg cartons?

ID:	1183983 I am in the Troutman camp. I have an old-timey Tupperware container that I transfer into. We get our eggs from CSA and I do rotate. Now, before I did the Tupperware thing, I did used to pull the eggs from the outside in.

Think and adjust. Think and adjust. And tell everyone.

My wife will actually rearrange the eggs just like that. Me, I don't have any preference so I go with how the wife will arrange them..a little weird to me but we have been married for 35 years so I guess it works.

I take eggs from one end of the carton, but put the heavier side towards opening of fridge so when the carton is pulled out you have the heavy end and don’t drop them.

Almost. I try to keep the large tray symmetrical. I wouldn't have removed the 2 in the middle. I would have placed one at either end in opposite corners/rows from each other. More of a pattern.

I'm not picky about how the eggs are arranged in the carton as long as the older carton gets used up first.

However I am picky about only buying pasteurized eggs. I don't need to be buying little salmonella incubators, a dozen at a time, if I can help it. Plus with pasteurized eggs I can make bearnaise or carbonara with a clear conscience.

According to a friend of mine who raises chickens for eggs, commercial hens (including her own) have generally been vaccinated and pretreated for salmonella before they leave the hatchery. She said that you can buy unvaccinated untreated chicks for less money, but that it's a pain to vaccinate and treat them yourself.

BTW, I defer to Panhead John for comment on untreated chicks.

I cluster them near the center for balance.

I always go down one row, then down the other side. But after seeing all of this now I am gonna be thinking about the best way to do it. LOL

              Ooooooooh lovely.

When I used to buy eggs in cartons (before I got chickens), I would always use from one end and make sure the empty end was to the back so I would be supporting the weighted end. That reduces the possibility that a weak carton would fail, and also minimizes the work of lifting the carton.

Is it science, or a different kind of neurosis.?

I often put the cracked shells back in the carton. My wife hates that.

Only when you are tossing the carton I hope? Not when there are more eggs returning to the fridge?

Of course I take the eggs out in a symmetrical pattern that maintains equal weight distribution. This is the foundation of a civilized society.
