Hold on there GG. If you need to unload some of those treats that you might have hidden away, I will gladly take them off your hands. Just sayin.

McDonald's & Taco Bell, cheap Pizza (huts and stuff), and subway. Also I have never been a sweets fan, but now I eat even less. Pretty much only eat pies and cookies.

Pizza that comes in a box. WAY less fast food and more selective about it.

Thanks to UC that refuses to stay in remission I avoid coffee and almost all Mexican food. I miss pico de gallo the most, it’s good on so many things.

Nothing. I see a lot of replies talking about eating too much of something or drinking coffee at midnight etc. But that's different to me than a food you just can't eat and don't really have any of those.

For 15 plus years have only eaten 1 meal in the evenings. On the very odd occasion I do have something earlier but it messes me up.
I haven't had reason to avoid any food types yet but I'm in search of the culprit that is giving me heartburn lately and eliminate it.

holehogg Omeprazole is the generic equivalent form…and see post below, I totally understand on the willingness part, but definitely worth trying a reset before total abstinence of something you love.

There is a condition called Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). I've taken Nexium (Omeprazole) daily for many years for it. It is not necessarily food specific. There is pretty good description here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-...s/syc-20361940. Essentially acid leaking back up into your esophagus from the stomach. I also have a tilt bed to keep my head higher at night to keep the flow going down.

Who are you calling old? The funny thing is, I’ve been having regular indigestion issues over the past few years and they haven’t gotten any better over the past two where I’ve eaten tons less fast food, deep fried foods, etc. I really need to zone in on that and figure out what it is. The problem is I consume all the common culprits in caffeine, dairy, fatty foods, alcohol, lots of spicy things, etc. My first two suspicions are cheese and onions, so I probably need to cut one out for a week or two and see how I feel, but I use both in about everything and the thought of living without either, especially cheese and sour cream, is depressing.

As the Husband and I get older we find ourselves cooking at home MUCH more.
I am not sure if it is dictated by price, or convenience, or just the quality and QUANTITY of the food.
We find ourselves more and more packing doggy bags when leaving a restaurant because the servings are just too much. We have also discovered once we get the leftovers home they find a place in the fridge to spend the week before being tossed on trash day. We just never seem to get around to warming them up and finishing them.
We are both convinced we were lured into the more is better world. If a restaurant makes you think you are getting a bargain your mind will finish the job when you pack that doggy bag and takeout home. Use it or not.
I did a little quick research into the more is better theory and came up with an interesting site that somewhat confirms what we were beginning to feel.
The one thing that seems to stick out as much as anything to me personally is the drink portion size. Many years ago a drink portion was 6 ounces for regular size, and if you were feeling glutinous you went for a large drink at 8 ounces. You drank your one glass and felt satisfied. Now a beverage in a restaurant begins at 12 ounces and all the refills you can slug down. We found ourselves consuming way way way too much because it was there and it was free. We pretty much abandoned drinking soda eating out or at home.
We both seem to agree that for us it isn't a specific food that causes problems it is the AMOUNT of food. We have both cut back a lot and find ourselves much more comfortable throughout the day.
A link to some interesting reading.

Edit to say. We still have a very good local Italian restaurant we visit every 2 weeks for their spaghetti. It is very good but same deal. HUGE portions. We do take the leftovers home for our 16 year old 4 pound ShihTzu. He could make a regular diet of Tone's spaghetti with meat sauce. He will absolutely devour it for his night time snack. I know it is not the best thing in the world to feed him BUT at 16 he is kind of spoiled rotten and gets pretty much anything he wants. His Dad makes sure of that.

Restaurants. Fast food just makes me feel bloated and shamed; I have never liked the chain places like Applebees, Outback, etc.; and even "nice" restaurants give me that "is that all there is to it?" feeling. Don't get me wrong, I have had some great meals and wonderful times dining out, and will surely do so again, but eating out has lost a lot of value for us over the past few years.

The recent Texas road trips have been a lot of fun and it was awesome to sample a few of the BBQ joints there, but $85 bucks for a beef rib? I'm sure a big part of my lackluster towards dining out is due to discovering this site, this group of people and how much my personal culinary world and skills have improved. Plus, buying food for home cooking is becoming very expensive, let alone going out. Breakfast for 2 at a local diner including tip is $40 bucks around here now, too rich for my blood.

CaptainMike I am afraid we have only seen the beginning of the price raises.
$10 for a pound of bacon? I actually had the people who run the local butcher we use apologize for her pricing yesterday.
A kind of side note? We bought 3ea 1.5 pound Pork steaks cut from the butt for $3.99/lb which I considered a very good price. They were actually delicious! She tells me she sources her pork locally and it is Wiltshire. I did a quick search, and that is a very strange looking hog.

CaptainMike I do remember YEARS ago before Husband began delving into backyard BBQ thinking Applebee's baby back ribs were the most delicious meal we had ever eaten. You do learn a lot when you actually begin to delve into the world of BBQ.

Budweiser. The last two times i've had more than one or two, (ok eight or nine), I've gotten physically sick for a day or two. So Bud's out, and I'm fine with that

I drank Budweiser also for a while, years ago. I quit drinking it too, gave me headaches and an overall lousy feeling.

Like others, I would prefer to eat out less, and with my BBQ and cooking obsession, we don't eat out as much as we used to for sure.

As far as foods I used to eat and cannot now - I can barely tolerate pizza with regular tomato sauce anymore. The acidity plus the processed meats like pepperoni seem to always result in heartburn. If we make our own pizza or order out, I've got to find a place that offers an alfredo or other type white sauce. And keep the pepperoni and salami and such at a minimum. I also have become lactose intolerant with age, and too much milk, ice cream or cheese can be too much of a good thing, leading to stomach aches an hour or two later. So I pretty much avoid tomato based foods, and ice cream!

And the last thing that comes to mind involves beer. I like IPA's, but they do not like me. For some reason, every time I drink a good IPA, after about 2 pints, my nose is so congested I can barely breath. I think its a hop allergy or something. Therefore, most of the beer I brew at home is on the less hoppy side these days.

Supper at a restaurant is one thing that has almost ended at my house.
One reason is price. 50 dollars for two of us to eat supper hurts with social security for income. Also neither of us likes to drive at night. The new led headlights are too bright
As far as actual food, no bananas. cantaloupe or watermelon for me. All 3 give me heartburn and reflux.
