What foods do you find yourself avoiding as you get older?

I'm not really talking about choices for health reasons. I think nearly all of us realize that we could do better eating less sugar, salt, and empty calories.

I'm really talking about foods that you once ate a lot of of, but have had to scale back as you get older.

The two that immediately come to mind for me are greasy foods and coffee, of all things. I've gotten to the point at which I really can't eat pan-fried bacon anymore. It is just too greasy for me. I have to do it in the oven (which actually tastes fantastic). When I cook with bacon, I have to be careful how much grease I leave in the pan. It isn't to say that I don't like pan-fired bacon -- I do -- but I can't handle it as well as I used to.

Same with smashburgers. I used to be able to do a triple Wendy's with no problem. Nowadays, just one patty, please.

I used to eat at The County Line in Austin twice a month when I was in college. I went back about a decade later and, while the beef ribs were as awesome as they always were, the "heaviness" of the fat was more noticeable.

I've also noticed I've gotten sensitive to caffeine as I've gotten older. After my second 10-12 oz cup, I really feel that irritability coming. I've switched to a 50/50 blend of caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee and that does help.

So what do you find yourself scaling back on?

Deep fried foods can give my tummy back flips.
Hot sauces, I used to do heat really well, now not so much, have to pick my punches.

Honestly, I probably eat more things than when I was younger. Green veggies always tasted bitter to me but I'm now able to eat some of them IF they are cooked.

But from childhood and teen years (some college years too) I now avoid Spagetti-Os and the cheap ramen noodles.

As long as it is in moderation I can still eat almost everything. But I can’t do coffee after dinner and still sleep or eat late in the evening.

I'm having some reflux issues and cutting out coffee made a huge difference. Doc said to cut alcohol and spicy food as well so I am getting a second opinion.

When I asked the Doctor for a second opinion he said, "And you're ugly too."

Too many Red Hot Pepper Flakes on a pizza at 0100hrs, especially if I haven't had those dudes for a few months. The next night, good to go, but eat before midnight.

I am just trying to cut back on the carbs/starches. Sugar is the killer not the good fat. I am very active but still have to watch the weight and man I love potatoes and bread.

I still eat just about anything I want - er - that my wife will allow, but because of a hiatal hernia, I shouldn't eat anything for at least 3 hours before I go to bed.

I guess fer me, it was the fast food. I liked McD’s & BK & Popeyes & Subs. Yup, burgers & fries & hot chicken & quick, convenient & tasty, mebbee 3 to 6 times a week or more. Now, I’ve had 1 quarter pounder & one Popeyes since last August. Once you break yerself of the addiction the food becomes a bit revolting.
Coffee, no problem! Bacon, one of the original health foods. Bacon grease, it’s what to cook with, yessir. Meat, food fer ya. Fish, love em! Cackle berries, a dozen a week or more. Cereal, kiddie food. I will stop here, before I get called out on strikes.

Dear sir, did you just say Popeyes would become revolting? I thought I knew you.

If I give in, that’s where it will be. I have coupons on my table & I have a store about a ten minute walk from my place. Yup, real close. Talk about jones.

Prefer to NOT eat too much of fries, potato chips, and other greasy fried foods. I DO Prefer any "good quality" food and still like to try several different foods even some foods I'm not used to.

In the last year I've broken my habit of drinking multiple cans of diet pepsi a day (now replaced by water). Also hardly ever eat cookies anymore. No more chocolate candy bars. No more chips, especially fritos and cheetos. Have to limit carbs so cauliflower rice is replacing regular rice. Even learned to like cauliflower "mac" & cheese instead of the real stuff. The list of carbs rich foods I now avoid goes on and on.....

Too much coffee. I used to be able to drink coffee all morning until lunch. Now 1 maybe 2 cups is all my guts can handle. Whiskey is gentler to me.

For me, it's not the type of food. It's portion control. I have no choice. As I got older I couldn’t eat the volume of food I used to. So I eat what I did and maybe some added just not as much.

                    Two other notes:

Country Line I think in Cypress. Used to frequent that area for business, Compaq. Great Q'

My favorite way to cook bacon in oven baking pan and on a rack. Always crisp not greasy.
