Like Uncle Bob I have had my bout with cancer, but mine was prostate. It seems he and I have more in common than BBQ and age. I applaud your for trying to find ways to fight the cancer. I do know there are different ways to treat your condition medically. I am hoping there are some medical possibilities to treat yours in addition to your wholistic food approach.

Well that’s a crappy way to start what we were all hoping to be a better year. Sounds like you’re coming out swinging, though … and that’s both positive and important. Just know that a whole bunch of us "best friends you’ve never met" are standing with you and will always be here for you if you need to reach out.
Oh. And don’t give up on brats. I used to make a pretty decent "healthy" version with all fresh ingredients, most fat removed (replaced with olive oil), and I gotta say that they were pretty good.
Hang in there, my friend …

FireMan sending all kinds of well wishes. I am a firm believer of "food be thy medicine". Might I suggest looking at a Whole30 "state of mind". It’s nothing BUT real food. I have worked very closely with a Whole30 coach and know the program rather well. They were a client of mine at an old job. I do not follow it everyday, because… well, wine. You will find what works for you. You may PM me with any questions.

Wishing you the best on kicking this. I've heard of some people having good outcomes fighting with diet.
I did read klflowers post on processed foods and found it to be interesting. Good article and I'll have to pay more attention myself as I've been diagnosed with coronary artery disease; nothing serious yet... I just had it checked because of family history and my brother's recent sudden cardiac arrest (he survived to have a defribillator implanted, and he is doing fine).

Yes you can make great sausage and charcuterie without an excess of preservatives! Having cancer myself(lymphoma), I think I get it.Most of the cured meat you buy has a ton of preservatives for shelf life issues. Making this stuff yourself, or buying " non cured" sausages will help. Try the " Two Guys and a Cooler" channel on You Tube. Or, if you like, authentic, old world recipes. Those are more labor intensive, but way, way healthier.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
