You could make the October Team cook - snitzel and spaetzel, or make some Kasespatzen, layering Swiss cheese with the cooked noodles and then topping off with cooked down onions.
or a Hungarian Goulash or even stroganoff.

I was busy sleeping after having been out to dinner and totally missed this lol. Two most common things in Germany is to cook and eat as your starch or to cook and make kaesespaetzle, which is literally cheese spaetzle. Layers of cheese and spaetzle topped with carmelized onions
good main dishes - schnitzel, chicken paprikas, goulash, pork stew …. Basically any German or Hungarian main. Kaesespaetzle is a main all by itself and is common on Friday in catholic families in southern Germany.
enjoy!
the daring gourmet’s kaesespaetzle recipe looks solid

You are welcome Hulagn1971 and @ecowper
my Oma is from Ulm, Germany - she turned 90 last month - I know she would love knowing others are making her goulash! And all this goulash talk…I’ll be making this over the weekend or early next week…may wait for my son to get home for the holiday, as i know he loves it as well!

Here's the Lentils and Spaetzle recipe I make .... stole it from The Daring Gourmet and then tuned it to my own liking. I eat this every time I'm in Stuttgart, which is not often enough. So, I have to make my own.Last edited by ecowper; November 19, 2025, 12:11 PM.
