POLL: Would You Do This To A Prime Ribeye?

In this brief video, they marinate a Prime Ribeye steak in Worcestershire Sauce and A-1 Steak Sauce for a couple of hours before cooking. Would you try this yourself or have you done it before?

Going to do just that, this weekend Bob. Grab you a steak and give it a shot too.

I hate A-1 so no. In general though, I think steak sauces (HP is another one but I love it) should be reserved for the plate if needed but not part of the cooking process. For prime rib, honestly, a nice gravy sounds a lot better if you must do something because you don’t want to eat it plain, which frankly should be pretty darn good if you did it right.

HP is a great sauce on the side.

Can I then use Ketchup on it with my Kale and Brussel Sprout salad?

Are they serious???? Such a delicious tasting meat why would you do that? Buy a flank steak and do whatever to it.

I agree, if I was to try this, it certainly wouldn’t be with a Prime ribeye. I like Worcestershire sauce ok and it’s been maybe 30 years since I’ve had A-1 on a steak, but not as a marinade. I might try it one day on a cheaper steak just for grins.

I would try it. Agree, this is how you learn.

Hell, you put beans in your chili, so this ain’t really no surprise. 🥸

That is because you are supposed to put beans in your chili.

Some lessons aren’t worth knowing the answer David.

All though I would not try A1, I have tried a bit if fish sauce in the sealed SV bag, found no reason to try it again soon, or reason not to.

You do realize that Worcestershire sauce IS fish sauce (base ingredient is anchovy), with some added spices. Just sayin'.....................

It always cracks me up hearing people try to pronounce Worcestershire. I grew up in Worcester Mass, the only problem we had was furriners trying to spell Worcester as Worchester.

With the price of Ribeyes these days I stick with just salt and pepper and let the flavour of the meat shine through. I would use that recipe on less expensive cuts of meat subbing HP sauce for the A1. A little marinade on tougher meats is a good thing.

Panhead John - is paying for the meat so cost is not a problem.

since a ribeye and a slice of prime rib are more or less the same thing, why not put au jus on a ribeye?

So I guess we have a culinary adventurous group here. The results of the Poll so far are closer than I expected.

I’d give it a shot. I guess. I’m just a S&P man myself but when you come for a visit we’ll try all kinds of crap.

I’ll try anything once. I certainly would not make a habit of it. I’ve gotten to the point I love S&P only on my steak.
