I just saw a video for steaks cooked directly in the coals, has anyone tried this and how were your results?

I did see a show on the food channel, I believe it was Alton Brown,and he utilized a hair blower drier type hokie dookie thing to manage ash on the coals, before he put it on. I think he used lump charcoal and I think he did skirt steak and really got some great carmalasation (is that a word) have not tried it but sounds pretty cool would cook really, really fast. hope it helps even though I didn't answer your question so in answering your question no I haven't.
