I'm stuck in a bean pot slump. I really need to be more inventive with the beans I make. I'd love some recommendations on recipe sites.

Chicken and beans fall stew .... you could probably use Royal Coronas in this, although I prefer it with Marcellas or Flageolets

I know, that doesn’t sound right. Tried something new yesterday. And I definitely have a new recipe. Couldn’t decide if it should go under Poultry, Beans, or Chili ..... naaaaa, it’s obvious. It’s the beans that shine through. I have got to tell you, the Rancho Gordo Marcella beans were amazing. Some of the best beans

Bkhuna you're welcome ..... I've got more in Paprika that I haven't posted to pitmaster, but I figured that this should get you started

As of today I am now in the Bean Club, I excitedly told my wife... she shook her head and called me names

Yup, that RG Stardust Dipping Powder is good stuff, Bruce (@Alan Brice ). Just looking at that Bloody Mary of yours makes me want to dash into the kitchen, make one up quickly, and join you!

You should post that photo over on the RG site on the Stardust page.

Welp, it's gone! There used to be a place for you to post recipes/reviews of a product. That's where I thought you could post your photo. I just searched through the RG site, and came up empty. They must have deleted it in their site revamp? Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase.

Elsewhere here, somewhere, I recently asked for input re 3 sisters plantings. Especially for pole beans. Has anyone planted RG beans? Inoculant or not? germination %?
        Thinking about next year adventures.

I started about 30 seedlings two years ago, Marcellas I believe. Everything sprouted and was doing great then over a cpl nights the bun-buns devoured everything. At least my pesky wabbits have taste. Or I should say have tasted.

We had a bean fall down the drain of our hand sink at work. Didn’t know it until we saw the sprout! My boss took it home to plant. Haven’t hear of any results though….

It was one of the midnight black beans, perhaps.

I hear the same abt tomato seeds. Do not let them into the sink drain or you will be removing them w/a backhoe.

I'm probably going to have to cancel my membership...we just can't keep up with it! Especially with SWMBO on a low carb diet currently and the boy out of the house.

I recently received my Rancho Gordo Club delivery. As an "expat" from my state due to hurricane damage, those 6 bags of beans (and other goodies) were a sight for sore eyes. I felt like 5 little bean friends had come to visit and brought a couple of their pals.

Plus 5 of the 6 selections were among my most favorite beans:
Domingo Rojo (for Red Beans and Rice)
          Cassoulet (for uhm...cassoulet of course)
          Christmas Limas (for Brunswick stew)
2025 Super Lucky Black Eyed Peas (for a smokey black-eyed pea stew)
Midnight Black Beans (refried beans or nachos)

          Also included were:
Split Yellow Pea (for Mulligatawny Soup
          Crimson Popping Corn

If only some Pintos, Marcellas, and Good Mother Stallards had been in the box, I would have really been over the moon. As it is, though, it's a nice mix for several good meals to come. I have a huge collection of RG beans in my pantry at home; these 6 bags will be nice stand-ins, though, for home-away-from-home cooking until we can return.

And PS I bought an Instant Pot for my ex-pat kitchen with RG Beans in mind, among other delicious recipes. It's all black. Looks like Darth Vader compared to my OG IP at home.

Geez K. As an expat, perfect opportunity to buy a real ceramic bean pot, to use now and to supplement your IP upon your return in-country. And with ongoing utility work, a great opportunity to replace that ceramic cooktop with a versatile propane cooktop.

You have an obligation to introduce granddaughters to a panoply of cooking procedures.
            Step up!

Hope you get home soon fzxdoc. In the meantime, get that IP fired up. And I'll be looking up that mulligatawny soup.

Thanks, Kevin. It will be good to get back home.

That said, these little grandgirls are covering us with so much sweetness, and the urban life here is so convenient (4 minutes away from everything) that we have become so happy and lazy we'll have to pull ourselves away. Bittersweet.

That said, apartment life is a real switcheroo from living in our home.

            K.

klflowers , I do a riff on Madhur Jaffrey's Mulligatawny Soup from her At Home with Madhur Jaffrey.

          Here is a link:
Here is a soup of colonial, British-Indian origin, born in the early days of the Raj and a favorite among the dwindling mixed-race Anglo-Indian community of India. All the ingredients and seasonings are completely Indian. It is just the way it is served (in a soup plate) and eaten (with a soup spoon) that is British. This soup may be served at the start of a meal, but it may also be offered as the main course for a Sunday lunch, the way the Anglo-Indians do. At such times, plain rice is served on the side, with diners adding as much as is desired to their soup plates, a little at a time so as not to solidify the soup in one go. I like to give my guests individual bowls of rice so that a single large bowl of rice does not have to move around the table like a whirling dervish.

I don't think that Epicurious has a firewall, but if it does , go to her book on Amazon and click "read a sample" right by the cover photo. Scroll through the sample until you hit page 457 and the following two pages.

Well, I cancelled my subscription today. Hopefully someone here will get off of the waitlist because of that. I've just got too many built up now and need some time to eat them down before I get any more...

My surprise birthday present last month was a paid subscription to RG’s Bean Club. One of my son’s family had added me to the list a long while back and my spot came up finally. Total surprise.

I got in last year. Was already swamped in beans, and now more so. But it encourages me to use them, and they make great gifts. Made a white bean dip last week for wife's literary group (do not call it a book club}. It needed more salt, and a glug of good balsamic to lighten it up. Also did a chicken liver pate which was outstanding.

We just received these at work. I grabbed a bag! Anyone try them yet?
