I know you can buy it, but neither of the ones I tried suited either of us, so I asked AI for a recipe and this recipe is what AI came up with. It tastes like a decent teriyaki sauce.
I made 2 meals for the 2 of us with a bit left over.
I didn't time it, but maybe 10 to 15 min including getting all the ingredients out. If you want to add the cornstarch, it will take a few min more.
It worked well with both chicken and beef and I'm gonna try it with a teppanyaki style chicken and beef meal in the near future.
No special tools necessary, but a wok would come in handy if you have one. Otherwise, use a large frying pan.
Ingredients:
1/2 C GF tamari sauce
1/4 C mirin
3 tbs sugar
1 tsp grated ginger
1 clove minced garlic, (I used 2 cloves because - well - garlic)
1 tbs cornstarch mixed with 2 tbs cold water, optional
A few drops sesame oil, optional
Chili flakes, optional
Directions:
Combine the tamari, mirin, and sugar in a wok or large frying pan
Add the ginger and garlic and simmer for 3-5 min.
If a thicker sauce is desired, mix the cornstarch in the cold water and stir into the sauce and simmer until glossy.
Finish with a few drops of sesame oil if desired. (I did and I think it improved the final flavor)
You can sub coconut aminos for the tamari if desired, and you can add citrus or pineapple to change the flavor.
Use it as you would use any stir fry sauce.
