Jim White you may want to hide the dogs too. The sight of me and Panhead John in baby dolls may strike them blind...

And while that work was going on, all the framing materials were being delivered. The framers start tomorrow morning and they expect everything to be dried in by the end of the day Friday. So excited!

There was a slight delay to the start of framing. We were missing the beams that support the rafters. These beasts are LDL (basically multiple layers of plywood-like material glued together, but incredibly strong) and some of them are around 24 feet long. This is what will allow such a large open area without support posts in the middle of things. The beams got delivered yesterday evening while I was at the Gator baseball game.

Rain is forecast for Monday, so framing is likely to start on Tuesday. That will go fast, likely only a day and a half or less.

Edit to add: and there was a bit more demolition work to do along the roofline. You can see now how the cutback has gone into where the fake chimney used to be. Getting rid of the chimney was definitely the way to go.

Uncle Bob and they're way easier to install. I had a friend help me layer a 7" x 14" x 26' beam in my living room. It took the 2 of us about 45 minutes install.

Here's the beam I installed at our place to incorporate the former porch into the main house. I finished it craftsman style with alder plywood and trim. It made a wonderful addition to our home. I did the same thing to the kitchen by tearing out a bearing wall and replacing it with a lam-beam.

                Edit: 'Ol Coop says hi!

I suspect I won't sleep much tonight. Knowing that framing starts tomorrow and could even be mostly finished by the end of the day is just too exciting.
Materials for the new roof on the rest of the house were delivered today, also. I had been thinking the roofers could do their thing with very little impact on the other work on the porch. Makes sense, then, that the roofing can start as the porch starts to get a roof, too.

Wow! What a day of progress! I will give a brief update here, but the crew is still hard at work. They will continue working for a couple of hours yet, but I have to feed animals and then move on to Gator baseball. Life is hard, I know.

Over coffee, I saw the first post of the morning.

It's so exciting seeing just how large and open the space will be. Ceiling will be almost nine feet at the lowest point.

I'll update again in the morning.
