    Dear Mr. Bones;

Well what a tribute, and one well deserved !! We all miss your warmth and craziness but what a better way to hold up a brother than a Memorial Cook Mr. Bones style.

I know how much you liked Creekstone Farms meat so I ordered up some Beef Chuck Ribs especially with you in mind. To accompany them of course there had to be another of your favorites, that good old pot o bean. I chose my favorite (well one of them), a big pot of Great Northern Whites with ham hock and andouille sausage ....

Get you a big bowl of that !!!! After salt brining the rack of ribs, I seasoned them with Plowboys Bovine Bold and an extra helping of 18 mesh black pepper to give it a Texas kick. Also in keeping with the Texas theme, which I know you would have appreciated, I smoked them low and slow using mesquite.......

After about 4 hours she stalled a little so I cranked up the heat just a bit and after another hour they went probe tender right at 195*F, just the way you like 'em brother !!!

So on to your platter they went my friend !!! Made you some chimichurri to go with it to cut the fattiness of the meat and of course a big, hot, heaping bowl of those beans. Hope you enjoy !!!!!

Oh and before I sign off, my final parting shot just has to be from one amigo to another, here's to you my friend, a shot of Casamigo's Reposado tequila !!! You shall be missed !!! Adios my friend, Trout signing out !!!

I think Mr. Bones would be proud to share that meal with you. You did a beautiful job with the food, the photos, and the writeup. It made me feel good to read it.

      Kathryn

Yesterday during my livestream, my assembled friends listening reacted to my dedication of a song to Mr. Bones with lots of respect, despite having only just then heard of the guy. Everyone toasted his memory One just shared this really great song called, you guessed it, Mr. Bones, by an American artist named Kieran Kane, accompanied here by Kevin Welch and Fats Kaplin. I'll bet himself would have dug this tune!

      That’s Shirley,,,

I would like to add one more little Mr. Bones tidbit. While running errands yesterday I came across a retiring contractor yard sale. I generally pass by yard sales but couldn't resist this one. As I cruised through the warehouse I saw that I already had pretty much 2 of everything and started to make my way out. While visiting with the retiring contractor I noticed a handful old carbon steel knives a la Mr. Bones. I asked about them and the fellow said "I'll take $10 bucks for them" I swear I heard him say that in Bonesy's voice, so I grabbed them. One's an Oldtimer, one an Old Hickory, and one unidentified. These are some very nice, well balanced knives and I will think of our brother each time I use them.

texastweeter they have a nice selection on their website.

Hey all participants... great job... Mr. Bones would no doubt be so honored and proud! What a bunch of fantastic bones cooked here in his memory! There is a lot to digest here . I'm going to go through and "like" everything, because what's not to like! I'm in awe of the talent shown in these pics and words; much of it a result of the talent of Mr. Bones and the many like him here!

Well, my 3 day tribute has now come to a close. I'm chowing down on my pork and beans and sipping this tasty little IPA. Mr Z and I changed our profile pic for the remainder of the day. Smoked up our bones, reheated some beans, and had a beer.

I didn't join here until 2018, while I was still deployed to the mid-east. I spent some time going through my first posts while the smoke was rolling today. I have very few topics that I started where Mr Bones didn't comment, and even fewer posts that he didn't throw a like at. He always had a word of encouragement and made sure to thank me for my service from time to time even when the post in question had nothing to do with serving. While all the branches like to give each other a hard time, we do truly love our brothers and sisters in arms... but even more so when we share something in common.

Bonesy was a Seabee. As a DirtBoy in the AF we have a love hate relationship with our own electricians, and I'm sure it's the same in the Navy. But at the end of the day, he was a fellow engineer and we both served in some of the same really $#!++& places. We shared a love of animals, books, and music, and of course BBQ. On more than one occasion Bonesy reached out to offer to send me something, I always declined as I'm quite happy to pay my own way in life... but seeing how some of y'all had a deeper relationship with him, I do kinda wish I would have let him at least send me a book or one of the other things he offered, I feel like that mighta been him trying to break the ice and talk a bit more off line and I'm kinda bummed I didn't give him that opportunity.

Anyway, lots of glorious love filled smoke has gone to the heavens these last few days, and I'm sure for the next few days in his honor.

So Mr Bones, to you, to your memory, and to the joy you've brought everyone here as well I'm sure as you did in your public life.

Very heartfelt tribute. And stomach felt BBQ. 💕

The ribs are getting jiggy with it in the Weber Summit. Decided last minute I wanted to go charcoal for Bonsey. Will post final product this evening. Planning to go one slab with Big Bob’s and sauce, the other slab will be Memphis style dry ribs. It’s an absolutely beautiful day here in Bham metro, blue-bird skies low humidity and the air full of cherry wood and pork.

And I practically didn't realize that the cooker is a tamale pot modded Smokey Joe. Hopefully Old Bonsey would have approved! RIP brother!

On behalf of Spinaker and myself I would like to thank everyone that posted, contributed or even just viewed the Memorial, celebration cook for our dear friend Mr. Bones.
I am at loss of words at the outpouring of love and respect for a man well deserved.

Mr. Bones. You will forever have a special place in our hearts.
Thank you for your service, your compassion, your friendship, your kind words, encouragement, and your love of life.
Rest well our dear friend. ❤️

Thank you and Spinaker As you can tell, everyone here had a unique relationship with Mr Bones. I have been most amazed at how many thought they were special to him. That was his gift to us. He made all of us feel as though we, individually, were the object of his attention and adulation. When he joined I thought some of his posts were shtick. Then I talked to him on the phone and learned he was the most honest, contrite person I have known. Your efforts are not unnoticed. Thank you.

          Mr. Bones 3 slabs, RIP
