The towel bar was the real reason to buy it! ;-)

Excellent! Congrats on the new toy! I had flat top electrics in my first two homes, 9.5 years ago moved into current house with a nice gas top and gas oven. It is amazing! You are going to love that gas top!

Great choice. Gas beats electric any day!

ecowper so after your first cook, I want to ask how easy this fancy range is to clean. That is assuming you are like me, and end up with spatters on the cooktop!

I have an old black Kenmore porcelain finish gas cooktop, and cleaning is a pain, especially after frying. You gotta remove the 4 cast iron doodahs the pots sit on, then wipe all the nooks and crannies, and grease always seems to come out of the edge of a burner or something as you wipe, to mess up what you thought was clean. I usually have to go over it 3-4 times with paper towels and windex, 409, etc.

I want to replace it with a stainless (fingerprint resistant) cooktop at some point. I am hoping the newer ones are easier to clean, with their sealed burners and such. The wife would rather see a smooth glass induction or electric cooktop, for cleaning purposes.

Here’s the thing .... if you replace it with electric or induction, you are going to have to replace the electric circuit. Go from 110v to 220v. You have to factor that into your cost.

ecowper that will be a good argument. The current oven below the gas cooktop runs from a 240V 30A breaker, and I'll just tell SWMBO that it can't handle the extra load of an electric cooktop!

Oh, didn't realize you were dual fuel jfmorris. Do you like the dual fuel approach?

jfmorris and anyone else curious .... some close ups of how the range cooktop is set up and how easy to clean

This is what the stove looks like fully assembled. The cooking grates are a "dishwasher safe" cast iron according to LG. They say either dishwasher or hot, soapy water. The entire cook top is stainless steel and it really doesn't show fingerprints horribly.

Okay, here it is with the grate out. You can see that the entire stove top is below counter level and sealed. This is actually way better than the flat electric we had before. Stuff on that would end up into the crack between stove and counter. Last night I wiped it clean with a wet paper towel. Took about 1 minute to clean up. However, I haven't done something really messy yet like fried chicken. Our last range was also LG and we know that the LG self cleaning feature in the oven works very well, so not too concerned there.

Here's the burner assembly removed. It's easy to remove and re-assemble and there is no easy way that something can really get under the burner assembly. So, cleanup here is very easy, too.

Panhead John if you had told me that I'd be telling people all about how easy my new stove is to clean, I would have told you to lay off whatever the hell you were smoking.

That does look nice. We miss gas "cooking" as others.

Great right up and looks nice and easy to clean. One thing that I hate about our current cooktop is that the grates were porcelain coated, and were NOT dishwasher safe, yet SWMBO puts them in the dishwasher all the time, and the porcelain comes off over time, and they end up looking like crap. I like the straight cast iron grates used now much better. As long as they don't stay wet, they won't rust, and will stay looking about the same.

Funny what we think is "cool" in our old age, isn't it!
