Yay! It finally came! I've been on tenterhooks all day long anticipating the delivery. It took some maneuvering to get it through the doors onto the deck, but they did it. (It was delivered pre-assembled.)
It's so pretty!
Now I'm sipping prosecco and reading the user's manual.
I already called Weber and they said they have no burn-in procedure to get rid of factory gunk on the inside of the kettle. I still think I'll play it safe and follow Meathead's guidelines first thing tomorrow. We're going out tonight (previous commitment) but tomorrow should be a fun day, playing with my new toy.
When I got mine I lit a full chimney of briquettes, dumped them in with both vents full open and let 'er rip. You can peg the dial thermometer with the top vent flipped up so be careful.
Enjoy your new grill/smoker/whatever it is! I've decided I'll call mine a steemado(steel kamado) since it's made of steel but cooks like a kamado.
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
Guest, since Kathryn's out on the town I get 4-9/16" clear with the Gourmet Grill on top. That's with the Stanley tape, if you want me to polish up the grates and haul out the Starrett there's a bit of a surcharge but I can get you down to a few thou.
Call it 4-1/2" clear, you're good to go. Let me know when you have a proto, I'll be glad to test.

I took a bunch of pics of the guys getting it off the truck and of course with it ensconced on our deck. Will post tomorrow.
billg71 , thanks for the idea of dumping a chimney full of coals and letting 'er rip to get all the bad stuff burned away. Meathead recommended 8 oz wood, but the chimney full of briquets sure sounds like a good way to go as well. When it's done and the temp stabilizes back where it belongs, I can toss on some meat.
I've got one rack of ribs planned for the first cook at Breadhead 's suggestion. Also some ground beef waiting to try out the direct cook option. But what do I really want to smoke? I want to follow DWCowles' suggestion for a pork butt. That would be too much meat for us right now, though. I'll only get to play with it for a couple of days before we go out of town for a week. Talk about bad timing. Actually it's probably good timing, otherwise I'd be firing it up every day and we'd be inundated with smoked food. Uh, and what exactly would be bad about that scenario?
Reminds me of when I first got the PBC. Our friends loved my "testing" phase, because we'd call them to come right over or I'd send my husband by their homes with ribs, chickens, sausages, etc. until I got the PBC humming the right tune for me. It took several weeks before I worked my way through the various meats. They all said it was a sad day when they had to wait for a "real" dinner invite to taste some smoked PBC goodness once I got it mostly figured out.
Now they're all happy that I have a new toy to experiment with and get humming that right tune all over again. They're thinking some Weber smoked goodness might be rolling their way this time around.
David Parrish , as near as I can tell, the minimum distances (clearances) between the three grates are 4 3/8 inches each (top of lower grate to the lowermost edge of the grate support rods of the next higher grate); for the charcoal-to-middle, and middle-to-topmost grate clearances. The distance between the top of the charcoal grate and the lower edge of the grate support of the topmost grate is 9 3/16 inches. Hope this helps.
Thanks, guys, for sharing my enthusiasm. You all are the best.

Reason: Typo
"I tried to convince my husband it was a Father's Day present for "us". He didn't go for that idea. "
That's hilarious! A few years ago my wife's parents discussed getting new deck furniture. Apparently they agreed that what they had was perfectly fine. A month later my father-in-law got new deck furniture for Father's Day. Classic!
I am seriously happy for you. You must be absolutely giddy. I can't wait to see pics!
