Hunting & Fishing Season 2026 & Wild Game Cooks

Whelp with the end of squirrel season its time to kick off a new years thread. Took my youngest two along with our pastors son to the back 1,000 and did some fishing after church. Caught about 50/50 mix of dink male largemouth, and 3-4lb females. Seem to be in prespawn pattern, but VERY close. Also got to show our pastors son some Ggator tracks, a couple gator slides, and why we refer to TX as "red dirt" country. Even got back to town in time to make youth worship, bible study, and dinner. Gonna go back out with either the pierouge or jon boat and get back in the standing timber in two weeks, and bet we catch some absolute toads. Great day to live in TX.

Did one back in 2019. Seasoned with Tony C's, wrapped in bacon, and put a chicken in its mouth.

I'll kick off trout season this week fishing the lower Arkansas River above Pueblo. Not really great timing for dry fly, still a bit early but the temps have been way above average so we'll see what happens. Going to have full sun so challenging for BWO this time of year.

Slayed em today. I was so busy catching fish, unhooking fish with hookes deep in their throat, and keeping the dog away from the Gator den that I didnt get many pics. I have a video but cant figure out how to post it. Weightless white wacky rigged sinkos and white scum frogs were the ticket.

For next deer season. They had two dogs running the woods when I got there. Next weekend I'm going to check the bottom for hogs. Hit and miss, mostly miss as you well know.

New deer cart. I got flatless tires. Never put the originals on with the tubes. Rotating axles. Gained 1/2" of clearance with the flatless.

Got back from the Dominican Republic late Thursday. Had easy pasta Friday with a quick marenera sauce from frozen tomatoes of last year's harvest, browned off some feral hog italian sausages and boiled up some rotini. Came time for dinner today, and due to being hospitalized (im ok) early Saturday morning, had not gone to the market yet. Time to pull dinner out of a hat. Used a handfull of barley, some frozen spinach, garlic, carrots and onions along with some venison bone stock and feral hog boersworth sausage to make a quick soup. Amanda grabbed some whole wheat rolls from the city bakery on the way home from a funeral. Add a bit of butter and some seasoning viola; dinner.

Nice walk in the woods today. Turns out the lone water dispenser in the middle of public land only had the big Fiji bottles. The peanut butter bar is pretty good even though it only has about 1% moisture with water activity of -300.

I gotta get some time. Here lately I have spent every free moment working on someone's vehicle, the house, the church or speaking at some event. Im gonna be in rare form here and utter a complaint, sometimes it sucks being everyone's savior/go-to guy. Pretty sure I completely missed the spawn this year along with the sandbass run.
