    Hot Dog Sauce

Chili has to have beans, real chili that is. Texas Chili needs beans to be chili.
Why? Because chili without beans is a hot dog sauce.
For example, 7-11 convenience store sells hot dogs and has a hot dog sauce Texas chili dispenser--no beans.

You should take away his beans!

Chili con carne often shortened to chili means "chili with meat". Therefore, chili must include chili peppers and meat. Bean are optional.

The 'Meat" of the bean is its flesh.
Therefore, by adding beans (flash or meat of the beans) the chili is complete.
Unless it is not needed or not added.

We use Castleberry’s Hot Dog Chili Sauce:

But it’s really thin. I’d like to figure out something that is a little meatier, but the problem is that I don’t want to make chili when I want hot dogs, and vice versa. Hot dogs is, “Whaddya want for dinner?” “I dunno, hot dogs?” And chili is, “Let’s make chili this weekend!” And chili chili isn’t the same as hot dog chili.

Not that I couldn’t figure it out, but I’m just not turning a 15 minute hot dog cook into a big production. I’ll put mustard and kraut on instead!

They just shorted you the beans. That’s why that can is 11 oz instead of the usual 12 oz.

11 oz cans have 239 beans. 12 oz cans have more. More than 239 beans makes it 240 (Irish accent required.)

Good beans are a stand alone dish and shouldn't be adulterated by being put into chili. Good chili shouldn't be adulterated by the addition of beans. Unless you like beans in chili then by all means put them in I say. Clear enough?

And I've used chili with beans on a hotdog before.

I’ve actually had chili with beans on a hot dog too and thought it was weird but tasted OK. Baked beans as a side with a hot dog makes much more sense to me.

Thank you Greygoose the first thing I thought was that hot dog sauce is yellow mustard. Plochmans, thank you very much. And since moving to CA, this kind of chili is when you “chili size” a dish. Never heard of it until I moved here.

At Coney Island Hotdogs in Worcester, Massachusetts since 1911 calls their homemade chili type topping as sauce. No beans. They don't have chili named anywhere.

I figure they might have an idea since they've been around over 100 years...

I've been going there since 1962. Not much has changed as far as their sauce goes.

No. I don't believe I did see that particular spelling.

I could be wrong, there was a number of very strange ones... I think my spell check anticipates my intentions and just toys with me...

Curtis Famous Weiners, Cumberland, MD, since 1918. THE best chili dogs on the planet IMHO. The chili sauce on their weiners is legendary; and guess what, no beans in the sauce . . . . . . . because chili does not have beans !

Gino is in the weiner zone and loves his home town !
