I try not to eat potato chips, but I love kettle chips. I prefer salt n vinegar or jalapeño flavors if it's not just straight sea salt. For normal brand stuff I do enjoy plain cardboard texture ruffles as a vessel for a good French onion or bean dip. Best I ever had was a restaurant that fried potato slices in the same oil they did their wings in and then dusted with their dry rub for the non-sauced wings.

While Lays is starting to do it, in the UK they have an assortment of flavors under the Walkers Crisps branding and do an annual contest. The Builders Breakfast was my favorite. It was supposed to taste like a full English breakfast, but the flavor I got was American bacon and eggs, which a full English most definitely is not!

      Dear Troutman:

You know I love pit people but ya’llz being a bunch of chip haters! This is a no hate zone (except vegetables) and real chips need some love.

Not one person said Cheetos, not one. They have real cheese too. And the awesomeness of Funyuns. Oh boy those are delicious.

What is this world coming to?

That first pic in this thread reminded me of the chips we used to get in a box - was a good idea; two individual bags in a box, and less breakage. Pic is from a 1961 advertisement. These days, I like kettle chips; not Kettle brand - they leave brown ugly rejects in there... I prefer Lays kettle, but Winco store brand is equally fine for me at a fraction of the price.

We have Blue Bell ice cream here in Texas. I'd love to have a big bowl of vanilla and crumble some of those Blue Bell chips on top !!!

Growing up it was a local family company in Ohio, Jones (http://joneschips.com/). Big name brand would be Pringles. They’re not technically cut from potatoes, more of a Frankenchip.

I grew up in Maryland and my all time favorite chip brand is UTZ. I like sour cream and onion in their ridges style. Their crab chips are great too. Out here in Washington state, I like Tim’s. Tim’s jalapeño chips are great!

I also second texastweeter vote for Andy Caps hot fries. Their chili cheese steak fries are great too.

I'm not a huge chip guy--much prefer pretzels. But a number of years ago when I discovered duck fat, I inadvertently made duck fat potato chips. Whew! Those were some chips!

This is where we're at in CAL...chips made with crickets! On the back of the package it says "It takes 2000 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef."

So lets all feel guilty and eat bugs! These are not sold at a specialty market catering to health nuts, the picture was taken at a major supermarket (Ralphs.)

I’ve seen corn chips mentioned and would have to throw these into the mix. Epic 3am post bar munchies.

I’m a kettle chip guy, which, I’d they were in the house the bag would be gone in one setting, maybe 2-3 if it’s the size from Costco. The wife knows not to buy them often.

favorites are Salt n vinegar, jalapeño, and Salt and Pepper. And I don’t have a favorite of those three, it truly depends on my craving if I go to pick a bag out. Kettle brand is good, Miss Vickie’s are also good. Just better be dang crunchie!

oh, and the S/P have to be the krinkle cut Kettle brand!

Then, tortilla chips and salsa. Oh my.......that’s really where I get in trouble. Favorite chips, are of course homemade when I can. Other wise On The Border Cafe style with Sadie’s Roasted Green Chile Salsa. I wouldn’t have an issue eating chips and salsa for every meal!!!!

We have Mrs Renfro’s in the stores up here. I tried it a while back, but don’t really remember what I thought of it. I’m a big fan of La Victoria salsa verde.

Love the Red Hot Riplets, but since I don't live in St. Louis I can't get them as often as I would like. When I'm there I stock up, and when my friends from St. Louis come to visit they always bring me some (because that's what friends are for). Click image for larger version

CRISPS not chips. Chips are what you eat with a burger

Can't beat Tayto cheese & onion. So popular they even have a theme park & mini zoo beside their factory

For actual *potato* *chips*, Zapp's are hard to beat, those cajun crawtators are good business. My first encounter with kettle chips was the "Hawaiian" brand, and they were light years better than Ruffles or Lay's. The Hulapeno flavor are pretty awesome. They also have some Maui Onion "rings", and they're WAY better than Funyans (which are pretty good on their own.)

I think my go to "chip" is Cheetos. The Jalapeno flavor is my pretty good - it's spicy without being overbearing like the Flamin' Hot variety, which is more heat than flavor. I have serious self-control issues around Cheetos.

For dips, it's Wavy Lays. We like them better than Ruffles.
