Man...you’re giving me flashbacks to my college days in Miami. Stay out until 4am and then inhale a media noche or Cuban sandy and off to bed. Rinse and repeat.

The Cuban is one of man’s greatest culinary creations. It is truly a Sandwich among sandwiches.

Cuban rhymes with Reuben - might be something going on there!

Dang! Might have to do a butt now just to make a Cuban. It's definitely been too long. Those look delicious!

Hey no problem. Its cheap and its delicious. Its hard to find good cuban bread around here though so i substitute it. Ill shoot the recipe down below.

            My Cuban Recipe:

This makes 1 LONG Cuban (a whole french bread worth)

1/2 LB Honey Ham (HAS to be Deli, I used Walmart Deli honey ham, but if you have a good deli, use theirs.) Get about a 2mm thickness cut on this
1/2 Lb Swiss Cheese THIN cut(Once again, you NEED good cheese, or it will get lost in the mix)
            Approx 5 TBSP Mustard
7-8 Slices Claussen Kosher dill sandwhich slices (Has to be claussen, are we seeing a pattern yet? Bad Ingredients make mediocre sandwhiches)
Approx 1/2-3/4 lb Pulled pork or Thinly sliced pork butt
A few TBSP Mayo (I spread mayo over the top before I put it on the grill, you can use butter, but i find mayo gives it some extra kick that's missing)
1 Loaf of SOFT French bread, It needs to be soft, it will not work right if it isnt. The outside needs to be crusty but not too crusty. I find walmart's cheap 1.00 french bread loaves are about perfect. If you can find cuban bread, even better. I'm in the middle of Montana so that aint happenin'.)

Take bread out of package and let sit on the counter approx 1 hour to dry out the outside (this is needed, i promise)
Cut Bread in half, leaving just a little bit left to fold back over when ingredients are added.
Spread a generous amount of Yellow ballpark mustard over both sides of the bread.
Lay down your pickles in a Diagonal pattern. You don't want to put too many down, leave about a pickle's space in between each slice, or it gets too overpowering.
Lay down a layer of Swiss cheese. This is the glue that will hold everything inside when you get done with this bad boy
Lay down a nice layer of Ham, making sure to cover all space.
Now you want to put down your pulled pork. in a good thick layer.
Another layer of swiss cheese down on top of this.
Close sandwich at this point, and push everything down as hard as you can. Unless you have a plancha, you are not going to get this thing squished down enough unless you push it down before you weigh it down on the grill.

Spread a nice thin layer of Mayo over the top of the sandwhich, and put it top down on your grill at about 350-375 Degrees. Your looking for a nice crisp outer layer, but not burnt, and to melt that cheese and create a delicious envelope of meat.

Weigh it down with a pan and a crockpot or whatever, get creative if you have to, just make sure it can take the heat.

After about 4-5 minutes, spread a thin layer of mayo on the bottomside and flip. Weigh it back down.

Bring inside, cut on a diagonal, and eat!

Followed your recipe and made this for a big gathering of friends and family and it was a big hit. My son who had spent 2 years in Miami told me that it tasted very authentic. Thanks for sharing!!!

They make a mighty fine steak that I cannot come close to meeting. I wish i could get my hands on some prime aged beef without breaking the bank

Sorry, but my mind apparently didn't work the same way as most when I was confronted with the question "what to do with leftover butt and family in town"...

              I won't elaborate.
