British Pork Pie Versus Sausage Roll

    What is your favorite?

Both are staples of British cuisine. I am currently on the Isle of Skye in Scotland enjoying both.

The difference is the pork pie will use pork shoulder with spices and a hot water crust while the sausage roll will use sausage meat and a puff pastry crust.

The sausage roll is a haggis one (with the dots) alongside a jumbo one.

When I lived in Ireland, I would buy pork pies from Marks & Spencer all the time. They're amazing. I like sausage rolls, too, but if I have to pick it's a pork pie.

My parents bought me the very same pork pies from M&S when I was a kid and on vacation.

As much as I like British style sausage rolls, I'll take a pork pie over them. I had my first British style sausage rolls at a bakery in Temple, Texas in the late 80s or early 90s. I've tried to duplicate their recipe a few times but haven't quite got the taste the same.

I've made pork pies a few times: https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/fo...-mowbray-style

Mine did not have the jelly. Apparently this is a thing now with it disappearing!

I don’t think I’ve had either, even when I was in London years ago. Hope you are having a great time!!

More glorious pies. Steak pie (mince) and beef and gravy with hot water crust. Believe it or not, these were 2.75 pounds each at the gas station. Yummy.

Alan Brice ha. No sushi here. It was a supermarket attached to a gas station but the pies were nice and hot and not a vending machine.

I prefer a good pasty... one thing I just couldn't wrap my head around was eating the pies or rolls cold, but hot? I prefer the pies.

ItsAllGoneToTheDogs one chicken and Stilton cheese pasty.

The sausage rolls and pork pies are always chilled. Only heathens warm them up. The steak and beef and gravy pies are served hot.

You sure that is not a Hostess Fruit Pie?

I once was stationed with a squad of British Army musicians. They were cross training as medics with our field hospital during Desert Shield. They had canned steak and kidney pie in their ration packs.
