Are Pork Chops Hard to Find Everywhere

I live in the Northeast and shop mostly at Giant for food. For the last five years or so, it's been near impossible to find pork chops there. The only thing they have are these thin sliced pieces that used to be called breakfast chops. This seemed to happen about the same time Giant got rid of their store butchers and went to all prepackaged meats.

I was wondering if this is a national trend or is it unique to the Giant chain.

This is really frustrating. I have had trouble locating a local butcher but I will look again.

Thick chops? yeah gotta ask for them at the meat counter usually. Thin chops prepackaged up the wazoo everywhere. We have a couple stores with a meat counter still so not a major issue.

No problem finding them here in NE Florida. Thick, thin, both are abundant.

Same here in Central Alabama. Plenty of pork chops and priced right IMO.

Around here the selections are definitely getting scarcer. To make up for it I buy a pork loin and cut thick chops from it.

Ever since I read about it here on the pit we have been buying loins and cutting our own. The way to go.

Fresh Market is the only grocery near me that carries thick cut chops, but they do seem to have them all the time.

No problems down here, all kinds are pretty abundant.

Yeah no problem in NJ. If you can’t get the meat counter at Giant to customer cut you some (I bet they will) then find a real butcher. When I go to our place in Bucks Co I like to go to Haring Brothets. They have EVERYTHING

I live in Bucks County but didn't know about these guys. Doylestown is a bit of a hike for me but might be worth a try, I live in Yardley. Also found a couple of places around Trenton I haven't been to yet.

I didn't want to shop at two or three different places for food but I guess I may have to if I want good meat.

Yeah I saw you were in Yardley. Yeah it’s a bit far but definitely go once and check them out. The meat is incredible- they raise a lot of their own livestock. If not a regular spot I’m sure you can find some local butchers. There used to be a great market in Stockton where farmers would sell their stuff. Incredible quality. Unfortunately it closed but I think some of the vendors moved to market in New Hope. Not 100% sure but I’d go there and ask where they source their meat. Better than Giant

Not a problem down here in DE.
It might be Giant specific thing 🤷‍♂️

Nope. I either buy them online from Wild fork or any of several local butchers around the area. They’ll cut them just how I want them if not already in the meat case.

While beef supplies have been under duress for a couple of years, pork and chicken are generally abundant. That store chain has made a management decision based on their belief in what their market is interested in buying. If they're customer focused you should be able to request what you like and they'll order it in for you. If they aren't so disposed you may have to seek an alternative supplier.

Haven't noticed a scarcity of chops in the Chicago area.
