Move Over Wrights, I’ve Found My New Favorite Bacon

About a month or so ago, I decided to try a new [to me] brand of bacon called Kountry Boyz. The first time I fried some up I was impressed with the taste, I like it better than Wrights, and it’s also a little bit cheaper. Now that I’ve gone through a 2lb package of the stuff, here’s what else I like about. The slices seemed to be a little thicker than the others out there AND it doesn’t shrink near as much as the other brands I’ve tried. I did notice after opening the package the bacon was a little more meaty and there wasn’t quite as much fat as other brands. All of the slices were very consistent in their thickness and size. Sometimes I’ll get some thick cut bacon and there’s usually a couple of pretty thin slices in the package, not with this stuff. According to their website it’s only sold in stores in the South…Food Town, Walmart and Kroger, I bought mine at Walmart. It’s made in Brenham, Tx., home of Blue Bell ice cream. They also make sausages which I haven’t tried yet. If you’re in the South and able to score some of this, definitely give it a try, I think you’ll like it too.

EDIT: After posting this I decided to call their office and see what states it’s sold in. I was told it’s only sold in Texas. 🤷‍♂️

It might be hard to tell from the picture, but the bacon remained fairly close to its original size after it was done.

I just went to to the Walmart site and this bacon is not even showing as available here either in store or by ordering. I guess VA is too far north...

That doesn’t look like enough bacon John. Double the amount in the pan and we could be talking about a decent sandwich then.

Yep, no go here so I guess I'm stuck with Wrights

I am love the Cloverdale bacon. Thick-cut and it always seems to be on sale.

We don't have this brand in the upper-midwest. (That I have seen anyway) However, I am glad you found what you like!

Well this sucks, after RonB posted about not finding it I decided to call their office and ask what states it’s sold in. The lady said it’s only sold in Texas…. 🤷‍♂️ I mentioned that their website says it’s “sold at stores in the South”. She said, “sorry, it’s just sold in Texas”. Dang, I wouldn’t even have posted this if I’d have known. I’ll edit my post to reflect that.

Maybe one day they'll expand, I mean y'all got In n Out and we got Del Taco both of which previously were never going to leave the far west coast

Sometimes just reading the word "bacon" is good enough. I'm thawing out a package of Wright's thick cut Hickory smoked right now, thanks to your post. It's my second best fave unless I drive to Mom Wilson's in Delaware, Ohio. That's closer than driving to TX. I like Nueske's the best but can't find it close to where we live. We all have our special bacony faves.

            Naw, man. Leave it.

I’ve switched from Wright, too. I used to be able to get it at Sam’s Club, in applewood, hickory, and hardwood smoked, and all at a decent price. Now Sam’s has discontinued it for their house brand, and I have to go to the Walmart SuperCenter and all they have is applewood, my least favorite of the three.

The Weis Market near me had their house brand on sale, thick cut in 40oz packages, so I tried one, and it’s insanely good! So now I can get excellent bacon nearby, I don’t have to drive down the mountain into town (yeah, that’s actually a big deal up here) for it.

BF just got back from our Sam’s club. No more wrights. He is going to bring home Hemplers (WA state) to see if I like it.

A 40oz package of bacon…what’s not to like about that?

            #9
Grew up on Farmer John's thick cut. Not saying it is the best or even close to it, just what I grew up on and generally buy. I found some Wright's in the Manager special section (marked down to $3.50) couple weeks ago and picked it up. I really liked it. But at $9/lb regularly, I'll just stay with my ho hum Farmer Johns'.

RonB I assumed it was 1 lb., but did not verify. I will have to rethink buying it in the future if it is around the same price as FJ.

DFPS, if you come to the MeatUp, bring a cooler with you. I’m going to give a package of it to all out of state Pit Members who attend. There just might be some other goodies involved as well….😉

Wrights is great. No question. Our go to is Kunzler. We purchase in 10 LB boxes

Everything is better with bacon! Our smoked bacon products include thick cut and center cut bacon, along with honey, black pepper, and black forest bacon. Our turkey bacon and lower-sodium bacon are juicy and flavorful. Check out bacon recipes on our blog, ideas for grilling bacon, and more.

Now, in Tennessee and on line, here is a great bacon and county ham I had while living in Chattanooga, Benton's Bacon and Country Ham.

4 packs Hickory Smoked Country Bacon
