Today is National Pizza Day (reminder: pineapple isn't popular)

Today (Feb 9) is National Pizza Day.

According to one survey, the most DISLIKED pizza topping is pineapple with a woeful 35% of respondents requesting it.

Anchovies were ranked higher than pineapple by almost 2-to-1 (our math is slightly off, just go with the rounding error)

Also disliked on pizza? Eggplant, artichokes, and broccoli. If it matters: 31% prefer thin crust pizza vs 18% who like deep dish.

What do you NOT want to see on your pizza?

NOT desired on our pizzas: olives, banana peppers, jalapenos. (we can deal with the rare pineapple appearance, but we will make comments about it not being welcome on future pies)

Onions are okay, but don't over do it and cut 'em small.

For those who say "but you can pick olives off the pizza if you don't like them", we'll counter with "they leave icky olive residue in the cheese, and nobody wants that"

Uncle Bob how can you not like pitted black olives? They fit so nicely on little fingers. Did you not ever play with your food?

The ONLY way I ever eat olives is on pizza.

bbqLuv, those so called black olives are not food, so your question is irrelevant. I still play with real food, that's why I'm here.

I’m fine with pineapple and seek it out now and then. I try to keep the olives on my wife’s side.

My fave obscure topping on homemade pizza is okra. Sliced thin, it looks a little like jalapeño but roasts beautifully.

HawkerXP I am with you on the little fishies. My Husband does not consider it a pizza unless the little fishies are on it.

Not a fan of anything too sweet on a pizza (sweet BBQ sauce, pineapple) but, outside that I will eat pizza with pretty much anything on it.
I let my wife order pizza whenever we go out or have delivered cause it doesn't matter what she orders I will eat it.
Pretty sure pizza is my superfood.

I always SAY pineapple does not belong on pizza, yet I usually grab a slice when it's on the table. Kind of like White Claws, they taste good, but I've never had one.

I’m not a fan of sweet on pizza, just doesn’t belong on my pizza. But I get everyone has different tastebuds.

Another example, I don’t want sweet in my salad, no fruit or fru-fru vinaigrette.

        Yup, vinaigrette is fru-fru.
Why do they insist on puttin the i in vinagrette?

I love fresh pineapple but it doesn't belong on pizza. I hate it on pizza. Also despise anchovies, and don't overdo it on the onions. About the only other thing I don't like on pizza is sauerkraut, which snuck in under the top layer of cheese on a "Bavarian" pizza I had once a long time ago.

For me, no green bell pepper or buffalo sauce or chicken. And yes, I will have the very healthy little fishies sometimes.

Pineapple is a fad in my opinion, I don't knwo of anyone who orders it who truly appreciates it being on their pizza. I remember one time we had a bunch of teens over to our house to play cards and hang out, we all ordered pizza, about 4 or 5 pizzas. I ordered my personal fave (extra cheese, extra pepperoni, mushroom & green pepper) and the kids all ordered the usuals- meat lovers, bacon & onion, and ham & pineapple. When all was said and done, only one piece of the ham & pineapple was eaten and my pizza was gone after I had only 1. Not even sure the person who ordered it even ate it. I was mad, but that told me something valuable about pineapple on pizza. That, and I fill my plate with mine right away now.

The problem wasn’t the pineapple, it was the ham!

You guys would hate it in this house, one Za is always a Hawiian for the wife and daughter, the second is pepperoni with green olives for my sons.
I'll eat anything but I actually love Veggie Za's, always get more cheese.
        ....yeah....hold the fishies....

I worked at a pizza place in the early '80s. We had a regular who came in and would order an anchovy pizza with no cheese. We'd sauce the skin, then arrange the anchovy filets like spokes in a wheel, and cut it so each slice had a strip of anchovy filet down the center.

Did he request that arrangement or was that just the artist in you?

            That's how he requested it...
Every time there was a new employee or someone who hadn't been there when he ordered it, we would have to show them how he wanted it.

            Just crust sauce and toppings

It is not the toppings for pizza I disdain, it's when paired with Coors Light.

SWMBO only wants meat and cheese, so I get all the pickens.
48 years of marital bliss, I like the toppings she gets the meat, sounds kind of cheese, I know.

Question to ponder- how come pickle chips aren't an acceptable pizza topping?

I love banana peppers, as many people do, which are essentially just spicy yellow pickle strips. Why not pickles?

My ancient brain seems to remember Papa John's ads for their cheeseburger pizza that had pickles on it. Don't know if they still offer them, but I never tried it.
