Now that would be good. Will have to cook up some walleye next time.

My wife and I are tent/car campers and usually make a variety of meals. We live in the mountain west and the distances to our chosen location can be long so the first night out is usually something pre-cooked and warmed on our two burner Colman. Frozen, ziploc entries will take a day or two to thaw in the cooler. We've even brought along duck confit. Taco/burritos cooked on site work well as it's something you can eat with your hands. One night is usually ribeyes and potato done over live coals. Another favorite is stew or other one pot meals. Pre-mixed salad is handy and fresh vegi's are easy either on the grill or the Colman. Pasta too. Breakfast is usually granola with yogurt, hard boiled eggs, etc so we can get to the days hike without to much camp work.
We just returned Sunday evening from a week in northern Wyoming and southern Montana. We were in some fairly remote areas with lots of grizzly warnings so being aware of what we cook and keeping a clean camp is important.

Nothing like a hot meal at the end of the day. Camping and cooking in bear country takes on a whole new set of techniques.

How about some shortrib popsicles. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ The temp is the ambient temp when the ribs came off.

Thanks bep35! They were cooked on a wsm 14.5. It's a great way to utilize limited space. I've since learned to flip them over mid way through the cook.

At our cabin on the Mississippi we grill on a cast iron grill over wood coals, stick some potatoes wrapped in foil on the coals and some country ribs on the grill or fresh caught fish. The grill is home made and is about 12" above the coals. Good eats

I know there's no right answer, but about how long do potatoes wrapped in foil stay in the coals before they are cooked? 15, 30, 45 minutes?

It varies by size of potato and temp of the coals of course, but normally about 20 minutes. You need to turn them frequently. I just give them a little squeeze when I turn them towards the end and you can tell if they are soft they are done.

I use camping as an excuse to make these DO chili dogs that Frozen Smoke posted. Next level chili dogs, very guilty pleasure.

I really wanted to buy one of those disposable grill pans I've seen but couldn't find them that weekend so I had to cut a regular foil pan to get some fire on my steaks.

I wondered what the story was on the steaks in the pan. Never tried cooking them that way. Kind of like a disposable Grillgrate.

Depends on the "camping". Once I did a smoked turkey. Had to bring the cheap version of a WSM, a cooler, the turkey, and so on. So like 50 pounds of crap. At least. Other times it’s chili or a stew or a "hobo meal" which is hamburger meat with whatever else I have thrown into an aluminum foil pouch sealed TIGHT and cooked. Or freeze dried crap / MREs. Basically whatever I feel like doing, given the constraints of am I glamming for the weekend with hundreds of pounds of crap in the back of a vehicle, am I backpacking, or am I sleeping on a 20 foot open boat at anchor.
