Another reason not to eat vedgetahbills!

Yup, ya probably heard of the bug cycloaluminum or somethin that's goin around on growin stuff that is not cooked. Its cousin is the famous cryptosporidium that was blessed on Milwaukee's water bout 30 some years ago. There are two remedies, cook yer stuff or eat meat. I'll eat meat, yessir.

I'm a Southerner at heart, so I like my veggies cooked till they beg for mercy. If those green beans ain't tender, they're not worth eating.

And if they're not cooked for hours with bacon or bacon fat, forget about it.

That's exactly how my Dad used to cook lima beans...... #1 reason I don't like lima beans (or any other legumes) lol

Thanks for sharing! That informed me more than the random stuff my wife and mom have been sending me that I've been ignoring...

Luckily our greenhouse is producing lettuce, green beans and tomatoes now. That's three less to worry about.

Well, CA does produce more than 1/2 of all the veggies grown in the US. So not too surprising. The Taco Bell up by our house closed down for 2 days to clean house. Taylor farms is going to take a beating.

I need to talk SWMBO into letting me put up a garden/greenhouse in the backyard. I do miss my parents' garden, fresh veggies always tasted better than store bought.

If you're having an off day, please read this. You simply cannot top my level of stupidity from last night. I've been keeping up with the cyclosporiasis news. As a relatively low risk person, I resolved to not eat uncooked leafy greens for awhile (alas, my beloved cilantro!).

So last night, I unwittingly ate a take-out salad made with iceburg lettuce. I can't believe I did that. It hit me like a lightning bolt this morning when it occurred to me what I had done. (Ginger dressing was really good, though.)

Insert "you had one job" meme here.

Hoping what hit you like a lightning bolt was simply the realization of what could have been and not the effects of bad lettuce.

Sounds like I need to GRILL all the veggies we eat! Corn. Check! Artichokes - Check! Potatoes and onions and mushrooms - CHECK. If we want green it will need to be cooked spinach or green beans for the short term. Maybe cooked cabbage?

Start making bok choy stir fries as an excuse to get one of those crazy outdoor 200k BTU wok burners.

Haha good idea zblongladder but my 6 burner griddle would get jealous! I do have a 102K BTU jet burner for brewing, and keep thinking about trying my 14" wok on it, but then remember I have the griddle for outdoor stir fries....

Draznnl I've done grilled romaine, but not sure that would kill the beasties, since you don't cook it until limp...

Jerod Broussard I know I know! I'm grilling steak, corn, potatoes and artichokes shortly... lighting charcoal soon!

I've done Taco Bell twice in the last two weeks. Luckily I used the Hot Sauce which acts an antidote......I hope.

When pizza on your couch is suddenly far healthier than leafy greens and going outdoors for fresh air (in the NE part of the country anyway).

Maybe there's hope for other "that'll be the day" type things.....

Wow. Being a respiratory technician I'm sure the side effects of smoke inhalation is about as foreign to you as the last planet seen by the James Webb.

Eddy Raven, a country music singer, has a song titled, "I got Mexico."

Now it's, "I got explosive diarrhea because I got lettuce from Mexico."

I thought I recognized that PsycoSpridium moniker.
IIRC the wastewater treatment output was just above the Local drinking water intake.
