What pellet brand do you use?

I just ran across this video on pellet brands and who makes them. I thought all y'all might like to see it. It might open your eyes on which brand you use going forward. And for the record, I didn't look into the validity of the video. I've been a Lumber Jack user since day one of owning a pellet smoker.

Kirkland brand from Costco. At $12.99 for 40 lbs, hard to pass up. They work well in my Recteq and I haven’t found much difference between brands EXCEPT for the Cookin’ Pellets brand. They seem to have more flavor than the other brands but they are nearly three times the price of the Kirkland brand.

These are Pit Boss pellets with a different name. Both contain 70 to 80 percent filler wood (oak or alder). But if it works for you, then we're both happy.

Pit Boss for shorter cooks like the Pork Steaks I got going right now.

Much longer cooks (12+ hours) will have Cookin' Pellets for less ash production.

Thanks for this post, I might be out of pellets.

Interesting if accurate and not sponsored recommendations in some way.

I have been using Bear Mountain that was one of the top recommendations' when researching the best pellets to use but that video gives me pause.

Sourcing the top three isn't as easy. Cookin Pellets and Lumberjack are available on Amazon in large bags. I don't know why BBQ Delight comes in such small bags on Amazon, and Lumberjack, has been sold and now has the same owner as Bear Mountain though so far it seems their quality has remained the same.

Yes, from the link I provided, it appears that Lignetics now owns the plants that make Traeger, Pit Boss, Bear Mountain, Camp Chef, Weber, Green Mountain, Royal Oak, & Lumberjack pellets. Supposedly, Lumberjack pellets are still made from 100% flavor wood with no oak (except their OAK pellets) or alder filler.

I stocked up on BBQ'rs Delight when CandySueQ sold to Yoder. Have not used anything else for years.

@ DavidNorcross They are expensive, but I have ordered Smokin’ Pecan and BBQ Dellight which are apparently the only two left that are not part of a conglomerate that owns all the rest and uses cheap woods as fillers. I want to satisfy myself that it is not pellet smoker but the pellet in my quest for smoke flavor.

LA Pork Butt, I can't say 100% sure, but even though Lumberjack is now part of Lignetics, the LJ website indicates they are STILL 100% advertised wood flavor with no fillers. I am in the process of buying 5 more bags which should get me through the summer.

dubob I have struggled to get smoke flavor , so I keep trying to fine a pellet to produce it. I knew the verdict is still out on Lumber Jack, so please let me know know if it still delivers for you.

BBQ Delight. They make an excellent product. I started using them because they were recommended by Yoder when I bought my Yoder YS-640. I have had no problems. I usually buy them with a couple of buddies by the 1/2 pallet or full pallet and we all share them which helps to decrease the cost per bag.

yakima I used Green Mountain Grills and Traeger pellets prior to acquiring the Yoder. I will say I think the BBQ Delight burn more cleanly and I get more "wood" flavor. Not sure if that isn't due to the style of firebox on the Yoder and its location which is on the side wall next to the pellet hopper on the Yoder.

I should have been more clear. I meant, do you have experience with these pellets both before and after Yoder purchased the pellet brand?
When did you get your Yoder grill?

yakima, ahhh, now I understand. No, once I bought the Yoder I've only used the BB Delight as I sold the Green Mountain and gave the pellets that I had remaining to the buyer. That said, I do feel like the flavor of the BBQ Delight better. This could be due to starting to use the new brand, predominantly Hickory pellets, or the new cooker. I can say there is way less ash and black ash on the food which I had with the GMG and GMG pellets.

They are made by Pit Boss (Lignetics).

Cookin Pellets, Bear Mountain and BBQ's Delight in that order is my preference although only Traeger and Webber are available locally which are OK at a pinch.

Cookin Pellets also benefit from free shipping here in the UK which is a big deal when trying to ship to an offshore island, alternatively when I take my truck away on the ferry I tend to bulk buy!

Does BBQ Delight still make B&B Pellets? Before CandySueQ and Family sold BBQ Delight to Yoder it seems they did make the B&B Pellets.

I use Lumberjack or CookinPellets when I can find them. Not much else I’ve been overly impressed with. Unfortunately, at the camper, haven’t found either, so been using blends from Walmart, I think bear mountain. Don’t have the space to store a bulk order up here.

I always used Cookin' Pellets as a friend would grab a pallet every once in a while(being we are located about an hour south). I really should take a ride up and fill the back of the Jeep with them as I always enjoyed the flavor/less ash on my "Bull".

I've been partial to Bear Mountain for a while, great product and decent deals on occasion. Also had great luck with Pit Boss brand from Walmart, per Jerod Broussard's recommendation some time ago, very affordable and work well.
