I leave my garage door open on the weekends since I am in and out a lot. Went to grab a helmet off one of the bikes the other day and low and behold a bird had started a nest. Had to 86 that immediately. No birds or eggs were present.

I keep my workshop metal roll up door open. Couple of years ago had a dove nest on one of the shelves. And we had a cat. Cat never found the nest. We called the dove Eleanor. She re-nested three times in the same spot. I’d go in and out of that workshop and they never budged or moved a muscle. She finally stopped nesting.

      Miss Eleanor.

We got lazy and left our Christmas wreath up on the front door. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a bird hanging around the door. Lo and behold, a week or so later, Barbara discovered that they had built a nest on top of the wreath and there were chicks in it.

That happened to one of our daughters last year. Soon after she noticed that the door was covered with little black specks, on the move. I had my daughter tape all around the door from the inside to prevent them coming into the house, and even with that, several of them made it into her front hallway. Bird mites. It took the exterminator a while to get rid of all of them.

I routinely battle robins that want to build nests on top of the six 6x6 posts that support my backyard pavilion by the pool. I've yet to have one get far enough to lay eggs in the nest, but I knock the nests down as soon as I see them. They make a mess with their building material and poop all over our patio furniture.

The last few years I shove a hodge podge of items on top of the posts, wedged between them and the metal roof - random 2x4 scrap blocks, amazon cardboard boxes, etc, until spring is past. I need to just cut a piece of more permanent wood that takes each post up to almost the bottom of the sloped metal roofing I guess.

Jim, how about a decorative pyramid style fence post cap, like this?

Panhead John something like that might fit up in there. It's a few inches. I really just need a short piece of 6x6 that I can cut six sloped blocks from, pop them up there, and trim them. I trimmed them flush with the top of the upper frame when building, before we put the roof on. I had no clue I would ever have dealt with stupid robins, otherwise I could have trimmed the posts flush with the tops of the rafters at the same slope.

We had a kamakaze cardinal attacking our front windows so vigorously he left bloody streaks. I got a couple of these, filled them partially with kinetic sand (a kids' molding sand) so it wouldn't leak sand everywhere, and placed them on the window ledges. Bye Bye Birdie. Now he's bothering the neighbors, most likely.

They’re doing a lot of wing stretching today!

And they're out of the nest! Not flying yet, but it looks like the next day or so they'll be free.

Well, it was actually pretty fascinating to watch the whole process over the past month. It’s against the law to disturb the nest, even for a common bird such as a robin, but also, doing it would make me feel pretty queasy. I don’t have any real reason to do it, I can just use the kettle. This is their world, too.

One morning a couple of years ago i opened the front door to go to work and there were 2 birds between the screen door and the door. No idea how they got there. They immediately flew into the house. Took me a while to chase them out. Luckily they didn't poop on anything

Lousy bastards. I hate when that happens. We’ve never had birds, but we had a bat once. 4AM. I chased it outside with a fishing net, it took a while.

All gone. I read that robins don’t reuse their nest, so I tossed it and cleaned back there with Clorox.

We currently have a Robin nest on the fence next to our house. Our friend was helping us trim the hedges in prep for pictures and showing and almost cut it down. It already had two little baby birds in it! We can see the nest from our living room and it’s quite fun to watch.
