Big Green Egg might be out of commission for a while…

There’s a bird building a nest under it.

I think they’ll abandon it as soon as the weather gets a little nicer and we start using the deck more often, but you never know. I think a long cook on any of the three other cookers will drive it away. Or maybe a blue jay will attack it, that’s what happened the last time.

Yes. Looks like you might need to wait your turn.

How long does it take to smoke itty bitty winglets?

They clearly build near durability! Surprised they built so low to the ground though. Interesting.

The deck is about 8’ off the ground, so the nest is about 10’ up.

Ah ha! Guess to them it's like a nice thick tree and they've no idea any number of critters can use stairs!

I pretty much leave my garage door open all day.
This time of the year there are birds nests everywhere in the garage.
I knock them down when I first see them.

I get some grief, but in reality.
When the babies hatch they end up dying because they fall out of the nest or can't get out of the garage.

Murdy Every year, in Texas, we had Barn Swallows descend upon the neighborhood. They always built a nest right above my front door, and if I didn't knock it down after they left, they would build a new one right on top of the old one.
They are protected, so I had to clean poop off of my stoop every year, which was a pain.
I put down newspaper to catch the droppings. They would swoop around my head to try to keep me away from the nest.

Carolyn -- that all sounds very familiar, they can be aggressive little jerks. I'm not sure if they were protected by law back in the day, but they were certainly protected by my Grandfather.

You might get a little blue egg in your big green one.

I had a hummingbird start to build a nest in my garage on the door track. I shut the door and she kept hanging around outside for a few day then left. We have mountain bluebird houses on the property and that keeps them away from the house. Never have had a nest where it would be an issue. Wait and see what happens.

We had a bird build a nest on one of our work trucks where the hood meets the windshield. There were eggs in it so we let it run its course. In about three weeks the eggs had hatched, the chicks fledged, and the nest abandoned. We had to do some minor scheduling changes and it was really no big deal.

                No eggs?

                Chuck it.

                Eggs?

                May be protected.

It is funny that it is a bird that has grounded your cooking!
