My mom and grandmother used to always do that. I've been too lazy and had forgotten about that. May have to make a change soon!

Never considered it, but now that I think about it, it would be a nice thing if it got cold enough here. I always liked the chilled plate and fork for my salad at some restaurants.

Only on special occasions but it is a nice gesture and we should do more often.

Burnt my hands on plenty of plates at Mexican restaurants over the years....never thought of burning my hands on my plate at home...

Most of the time I do. Kitchen trained, ya know? When you pull stuff from the oven and turn it off, stick the plates in there while you are getting ready to plate up. Or I will turn the toaster oven on warm, like 180*. If you recall my plate from last night, I was using a hot pad. Went a little too long! Or I just put the plates at the back of the range and the residual heat takes the chill off.

I use the same methods as SheilaAnn. They take very little extra time or effort and are a nice touch for foods that can otherwise cool fast.

I also recently built a new house with my dream kitchen (Indoor and Outdoor). I have warming drawers in both. They get a lot of use for plate warming. So easy and no danger of overheating. Set the drawer on low/medium, put a stack of plates in and they are ready when you need them.

Yup, this is what I do too. Super simple, and very nice.

Just to clarify, I only put the plate in the microwave for 30 seconds max. It makes it warm, not hot. It will not burn your hands but just take the chill off. Plus, it doesn't take much time. We smoke foods for hours, what's another 30 seconds?

I’ve been on team warm plates for years - year ‘round.

Why put hot food on a cold plate?

Agreed. You spend hours making a nice meal to serve to guests. So why not spend an extra 2 minutes warming the plates for entrees that are better served warm or hot?

I put a damp paper towel on the plate before microwaving the plate. Less chance of damaging the plate.

Yes sir, always! I mean, if I've spent a good hour or two cooking a steak to perfection (or close enough) why put it on a cold plate that cools if off in 30 seconds? Nope, my guests deserve better. Sometimes I use the residual heat in the oven, sometimes just put some hot water (straight from the faucet) on the plates for a minute before rinsing them off, or micro wave. Doesn't matter much how, but serving food on warm plates is always a winner.

Great idea! My stepdaughter gave me a similar one for my birthday. I though it was for casserole dishes and haven't used it. This would work really well.

I see it is a 500-watt mat. That should be good enough for some serious heat.

It’s hot enough that you need to use something under it to protect some surfaces.

I often warm plates by running them under hot water from the faucet for a few seconds.
