Do you warm your plates before plating?

My dad got me into this a few months ago while we were visiting. He popped the plates in the microwave just to get them a little warm before plating the food. I started doing this and feel like it makes a difference. I mean, why put hot food on a cold plate. Ingenious! Does anyone else do this? Of course, paper plates need not apply 😁

How about those secondhand, thrift store plastic plates? šŸ˜‰

In all seriousness. This is a nice thing to do. Grabbing a warm plate in the winter months (Currently -4 F and snowing here) is really nice. Throw some Shepards pie or some roast beef and pos on that baby and there you go.

We do it when we do a nicer than normal meal or just when the house seems cooler on a cloudy winters day. At this altitude everything cools so fast. I don't know what a hot egg tastes like until we hit the Keys every winter. We do have a warming drawer which we will put the plates and serving dishes in. I got a metal coffee cup with built in chargeable warmer for Xmas, that solved the coffee problem.

I don't, but have considered it since I don't warm the house during the winter. Plates be cold.....but not subzero so no worries.

Spinaker Not sure, below 40 thermostat just says LOW. We got some upper teens coming next weekend, I'll get a reading.

Yes! I’ve warmed plates on occasion. It’s very thoughtful for when guests are joining. Usually the kitchen is warm from the oven or stove and the plates are usually out on the counter so they are warm as well. Typically the food isn’t around long enough to make a big difference for us.

Luckily we have a warning drawer and do heat our plates when the meal or guests warrant it. Not always but a nice touch for dishes we put some effort into.

Not in the summer. But in the winter I run hot water on the back of them, and I use those ThermoWorks trivets, too. Quartz countertops are cold this time of year.

I normally don't but if I'm plating something that cools off rapidly, such as pasta etc, I'll warm the plate. A damp paper towel covering the plate while heating in the microwave helps the plate retain the heat longer...

I almost always warm up my plates. It's a habit I got into, and now it's just part of the prep.

I’ve been served food on a warm plate at Mexican restaurants before but haven’t thought about it at home. It would be a nice touch.

Very rarely and mainly when I'm doing a finishing quick broil on the plate - New Mexican stacked enchiladas usually.

One of the old mansions that I toured around here had radiator heating. In the kitchen there is a pipe rack affair that was used and a food and plate warmer: slide plates in between the pipes and place food trays across the top.

My original dishwasher, which came with the house and had way too much functions for an appliance that just needs to clean dishes, had a dedicated plate warmer function.
