I have had enough problems with curbside pickup. I don't want AI to decide what I need and then order it for me too. Much of the fun of cooking is finding just the right ingredients, especially in the produce aisle or in the farmer's market, that are also fresh and blemish free.
With curbside pickup, the expiration dates were never checked and the produce could look absolutely scary. I only used it when I couldn't get out of the house due to a fall and my husband had to pick up groceries. It was convenient, yes, but the results were disappointing.
That said, one of our daughters almost exclusively orders all of her groceries online. The produce, however, comes from farm-to-market direct distributors who deal exclusively in organic produce.
My parents loved Curbside Pickup or in some cases delivery by the grocery store to their home during Covid. My mom and dad got really lucky and found a teacher that worked for the local Publix who did their grocery shopping for them so they got good produce most of the time except for when she wasn't there. For my wife and me it has been more like your experiences. I too would rather go and get stuff that looks good and come with a meal that fits what is the best available products.
My mom did this almost exclusively during covid, but my sister and I got most of her produce for her. She treated us like delivery drivers though - leave the bags on the porch lol
Sorry, I guess one of these days ya’ll are goin to have to take me out to the pasture or I will just have ta take a walk in the woods somewhere and not come back. I know I had a pizza delivered a 5 or 10 years ago but that is just about the gist of things. I don’t have anything delivered. Don’t order food as in any groceries on-line nuthin. Not about to start as long as my mind and legs keep a workin. Been thinkin mebbee this year of even havin a garden of sorts, so what little I paid attention to them “buy by dates” I will have ta quit readin my food also. Have ta git deeper into books, better stories anyways.
I think I will play closer attention to the real AI, the Almighty Intelligence.
Not gittin religious on ya’ll, just tryin not to git all caught up in gadgetry. It is why I still predominantly use charcoal. I know, I know, the bricquettes have ta be made. Just stickin with what I know and tryin to master it. Just don’t deliver it to my door.
Thank you very much, yessir!
PS, never watched the Jetsons. Barney & Fred type of guy.
I’m going to order groceries delivered for the first time today. I never dreamed they would deliver out here in the sticks, but they do. With what I’m just getting over I don’t want to be exposed to the flu, which is rampant here now. We didn’t go to church today because I’m still coughing and the fear of the flu.
Carolyn I kept it simple on the produce side. I ordered a couple of bagged Caesar salads and some taters and onions. I rechecked a while ago. They’re delivering again so I hit the button. We’ll know what it’s like a little after 6 pm.
My experience with grocery delivery from Walmart was just fine. I received exactly what I ordered, all 55 items. They sent an email saying it should arrive at about 6;28 and I’ll be darned if it didn’t right on time. I thought that was pretty cool since we’re 20 miles from the store and down a private dirt road. It was delivered by a very personable young woman in a late model SUV. She even helped carry it in. We will do this again.
I have a friend that has to use Walmart delivery and she is quite pleased. She is a Walmart+ customer. Yes, on occasion the order is wrong but after 1 call Walmart makes it right. I am thankful that Walmart offers this great service because there is a great need for it for those who can't drive. The other delivery services are great and are needed as well. Thank you Walmart.

We just cannot forget where the “intelligence” came from in the first place. It is from scraping all of our information over the past decades. Some things are and will be sacred and need to remain that way. I will stop cooking when they pry my spatula from my cold hands….No AI on my cookers for me.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

I just someone with actual I or even AI had looked to see that I was almost out of curry last night before I started making Chicken Shawarma for dinner...
Today my doctor stated Texas state law required him to inform me that he was using AI during his review of todays tests during my office visit prior to my routine treatment. He said it's cool what all AI does on the laptop during my visit. It even listens and takes notes only on medical stuff and not with our personal discussions.
I went to my wife's dr with her the other day and there was a sign posted that she used AI to record visit details. My understanding is that AI will write up the visit details and leave out any personal discussions. All the dr has to do is review the write up to approve it.
