In defense of ketchup my mom was a wonderful mom but a terrible cook. Her spice rack was salt, pepper, and cinnamon for cinnamon toast. Ketchup saved the day over and over again. If we had only had Worcestershire sauce my life would have been complete.

              Cinnamon toast kicks ass.

Bless me Meathead, for I have sinned. It's been 30 years since my last confession.

I put ketchup on pizza a few times in my life. It was the early 80's, and everyone in elementary school was doing it.

That barely qualifies as pizza, so I think absolution is in your future 🙏👍

That's crazy. Do they put it on their pancakes too??? I would've waited until no one was looking, then put the ketchup back in the fridge.

I was so tempted to call out our server….by our gracious hosts are regulars at this venue, so I kept my trap shut.

I'm sad to say that as a wee lad (5 or 6), I couldn't stand tomatoes or red sauce of any kind EXCEPT ketchup on spaghetti. That was the only way I would eat it. Conversely, I put yellow mustard on EVERYTHING (except spaghetti) - drove my parents nuts. Chinese food, beans, chicken, veggies, whatever - it had to have mustard.

I know, it explains a lot...My how times have changed.

                  My friends.....it gets worse.

This morning The New York Times published its interview with Michael Blake, candidate for Mayor of New York City: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/09/n...iew-mayor.html

It is paywalled, but here is the relevant portion:

Does he not know that tomato slices have been invented?

I like ketchup. It’s my go-to condiment for a mushroom, cheese, and onion omelet. If you’re making a Chilean completo hot dog, it has ketchup on it, along with mayo and avocado.

Otherwise, it’s great as a base for bbq sauce, and for burger glop sauce.

I watched a Jacques Pépin video on burgers; he puts ketchup on his burgers, along with lettuce and tomato, on an English muffin.

I tried that, it’s okay. But if I’m putting ketchup on a burger, I’ll mix it with mayo, a touch of yellow mustard and a dash of Worcestershire. So I don’t need it extra.

Maybe the shift leader said "Don't forget to put that red stuff out" (Hot Sauce)?

Actually, I bet it's due to the true epidemic out there - Sugar Addiction!

This is what gives me pause with ketchup on pizza, the sugar content. It just doesn't sound like a good mix with pizza, plus there is already a tomato sauce on the pizza.
