A clarification of my White Castle comments.
I never had White Castle growing up or in college, there aren't any around here. I stopped once with the family to grab some, I want to say we were in Detroit. Ordered a bag with some burgers and fries, I think, opened one up, took one bite - drove to the trash can in the parking lot, dumped the whole bag and went to Arby's.
Never again. UGH,

I'll agree STEbbq that it isn't great - but it was an option in the complex where we were stopping for fast food and it was a better choice than those nasty burgers. And to be fair, this was many years before I ever got into smoking meats. My son was in a carseat at the time, and he's 19. lol I think we left Detroit (forever I hope!) in.... late 2006?

Well, to be fair, all of could have zero idea what we are talking about because Panhead John hasn’t reviewed it. He is the burger expert after all.

Don’t get me wrong, y’all. Tofu does have its place! Like Panhead John stated, hot and sour soup. One of my favorites! As well as miso soup as a started for combo lunches. But it’s NOT turkey….NOT a hot dog…. You get my drift.

I’m gonna say hummus.
we were just talking the other day because a friend brought a hummus plate and we were wondering what’s the attraction. We’d rather have a Mexican hummus (refried beans) plate with chips and salsa. 🤣

Here's a hot take: expensive commodity ingredients.
My sister is a French-trained chef and has worked in a plethora of restaurants. She's shown me photos of the various kitchens and the thing that always catches my eye is how much of the ingredients are just common name brands. (And in these massive vats and cans as they go through so much of it.)
That $50 spaghetti? It's Hunt's tomato sauce. That $25 decadent dessert? It's Borden cream. Stuff like that.
Maybe it really is the cook/chef at the end of the day. (Or that restaurant food is often 75% butter and salt lol.).

My first thought was Brussels sprouts, but many people really do like them (I refer to you all as 'weirdos'), so that doesn't fit with the intent of the question. I think what ever 'fad food of the day' probably fits in one way or another. Stuff that pretends to be other stuff like fake meat and this-or-that free, or kombucha-like elixirs. They all make me think of Vitameatavegamin:

This strikes me as kind of a 2-pronged thread. The original question, and then what each of us can't stand.
On the latter point: in times past, I would have listed liver, Brussell sprouts, tripe, kale, lima beans, beets.
Now, being a bit more adventurous, I remove all of those from the never-eat list.
I have come to think that the preparation of these items is the key. As a generalization, overcooking is the cutprit.

“The most overrated food” sounds like an objective category, but it is totally subjective. I actually like all of your top three. I’m fairly omnivorous.🤣
