@Candy SueQ I mentioned Grandma's fruitcake here n not being able to find it anymore(my fav growing up). A Pitmaster named CHNeal, that always had killer pics in SUWYC, lived in the town where Grandma's is made. He bought n sent one to me out of the goodness of his heart. So, I had heard good things abt Gethsemani n sent him one. He said he really liked it then he fell off the site. PM'd him but no response. Been gone now a couple years, I guess.

My mother's homemade eggnog with Four Roses. Here's a link to the recipe from their website: https://www.fourrosesbourbon.com/cocktails/eggnog

Our Christmas spread is always prime rib roast, mashed taters, scratch made green bean casserole, yorkshire pudding, squash, and pie

We usually go to a friend's house Christmas Eve and I love some of the party food - sausage balls, French onion dip and chips, and Hebrew National pigs in a blanket are at the top of my list.

I love sausage balls. Does Hebrew National make little ones or do you just cut them to size?

@Hulagn 1971 - they make little ones, but only one grocery in my area carries them now. They are the best of the 3 I have tried

Thank goodness those aren’t a bit darker brown. 😳😂

Any of the childhood traditions have faded away. Now, French onion soup on Dec 24th or 25th along with whatever I’m in the mood to make. Sometimes I will chose a country and do that traditional meal.

New Year’s Day is fried chicken, black eyed peas and collard greens. Chocolate pudding for dessert. Which reminds me…. I need to smoke ham hocks and turkey wings!

Add some additional pork to that - usually ham for me - and pickled beets and that is my new years dinner

New Years Day is always pork (any) n sauerkraut. Supposed to be good luck for the New Year.

Grandma’s turkey molé, tamales and homemade tortillas. My wife hates molé so we don’t have that anymore. My mom, sisters and wife (she wanted to learn) made tamales in 2019 after grandma passed. Homemade tortillas are so rare now that they sell those uncooked tortillas and they are pretty much close enough without having to make them from scratch.

Love shrimp and grits, we have once every 6 weeks or so. With home made andouille sausage with much MUCH less cayenne!

I love shrimp and grits! Sadly one of my kids has a shellfish/mollusk allergy so not much shrimp in the house anymore.

Took me a couple times getting sick to figure out that farm raised shrimp can be fed food pellets with wheat and cleaning doesn’t get it all. Wild caught works just fine though. My daughter has dairy and egg allergies so dinner out is an adventure.

I always looked forward to cornbread dressing at Christmas and Thanksgiving because that is the only time of year Mom made it.

I made some cornbread dressing a couple weeks ago for a dinner I made for some friends and it was delicious. Wish I would have started making it years ago.

Double glazed spiral sliced ham. Of course with the Apricot Glaze. JoeSousa of course some Katz deli pastrami also pairs well.

For Thanksgiving we always do the traditional Turkey with usual sides. For the Christmas season we don't have any annual traditions but do eat very well since it's a time our entire immediate Family is together for a few days. There's always Beef, Pork, Snacks, Bars, Cookies, etc. As the song goes...It's a Wonderful Time of the Year!

            1. Tamales
            2. Real fruitcake
            3. Cornbread and sausage stuffing
            4. Hoppin' John made with sea island red peas and Carolina gold rice. Although I've been eating this my whole life, I splurge at New Years by buying heirloom peas and rice.
            5. The coquito that my neighbor makes every year.
